My Style: Public Outfit Display of Affection*

By March 6, 2016 My Style

The reason this outfit is having a public display of affection is because this is probably the most public My Style outfit shoot I’ve ever done. There were people looking for sure which definitely makes you feel a little weird but what can I say? This is the time of the internet, you should know the drill by now! I also just really love this outfit at the moment so it should have some affection, right? I hope you like it too!

I think this outfit sums up a lot of what I’ve been wearing recently. I am obsessed with blouses (I now own six – four long sleeve, two short sleeved) and they’re perfect for this time of the year where we’re not really sure what’s going on. It really messes with your mind because you think “Ooh, it looks lovely and warm and sunny today” and then you walk outside and regret your outfit choice immediately.

That means layering is a go to option, especially with sweatshirts and jumpers, which I also have a growing collection of. I especially love this one which I’ve had for a couple of years now (which you can probably work out due to the very scraggy loose threads around the arms) and it’s still going strong. It works perfectly with every style… grunge, minimalist, khaki seventies etc… it’s a very versatile piece, surprisingly!

In terms of the trousers, well let’s just say…. I AM IN LOVE. They’re very Valentino inspired, and although I don’t usually gravitate towards knock-offs, I absolutely loved these and I couldn’t resist them when they went into the sale. They’re so gorgeous and the style fits like a glove. I can also imagine wearing them on a summer evening so I’m sure they’ll work perfectly throughout the year.

To complete everything, I usually leave my blouse hanging loose for that kind of casual vibe (it also gives me an excuse for skipping out on ironing…). My hat ties in the black from the jumper, where the navy of the trousers clash and my shoes are just doing their usual awesome thing. Honestly, I only wear these and my Dr Martens. You don’t see me in any other shoes at all… no. joke.

Sing For The Wind (Roo Panes) 🎶

To finish off this post, here’s a little sneak peek of what I’ve been listening to recently. I’ve enjoyed adding these little elements to my posts so far this year and I hope you have been too! I love the “Little Giants” album by Roo Panes. Super relaxing but still some nice sing-a-long tunes too. “Because love’s a journey of a lifetime… and where you finish isn’t where you start…”

When In Rome… 🇮🇹

By February 20, 2016 DIY & Lifestyle

Unfortunately LFW fell at a bit of an odd time for me to do London Fashion Blog Week this season, which is why this post has absolutely no reason to the great fashion month that has already kicked off. This post is a little lifestyle-y but with a small outfit thrown in too. My family and I traveled to Rome for a nights stay in an AirBnB (our first ever experience), so that my brother could go off and see Ronaldo do his thing against A.S Roma ⚽ and so I could go and take a look at some of those great Michelangelo paintings. So here are some pictures from the two days we were there…

I’ve actually been to Rome a few times before but I couldn’t really remember that much of it, so it was nice to really soak it all up. I especially loved the architecture, and how colourful it all was. Italians seem to love their painted houses and Rome was full of colourful buildings, especially in gorgeous muted pink tones… perfect for outfit snaps as you can see from above!

We were actually lucky enough to take a trip to the Vatican museum which takes you through the Vatican all the way into the Sistine Chapel. It was a really cool experience but definitely don’t go unprepared without a good pair of shoes… it’s a long walk! Some of the art work really is quite incredible and you’re lucky enough to be able to take photos which is quite rare (although not in the Chapel… they made that very clear).

WHAT I WORE: Black Faux Leather Biker Jacket (ARK)* // Geometric Maxi Dress (ASOS) // Floppy Hat (ASOS)

The paintings really are quite incredible, mainly because they’re all in such good condition. The Last Judgement really is quite spectacular… it’s huge and you don’t really get enough time to take it all in due to the fact that you’re crammed into the chapel with hundreds of other people (they really need to only let in a certain amount of people at one time). I’d recommend it though! The whole tour was definitely worth it, even if you’re not necessarily that interested in ART… to be able to say you’ve been around the Vatican is quite a statement.

There was also a Matisse exhibition showing which was exciting for me as I’m a big fan of his work…. a picture in front was of course obligatory. Excuse the messy hair… long days with long hair = frizz and mess… a hat is an essential item! There was also a collection of lots of different artists including Salvador Dalí, but sadly most people were just walking on past. Stop and appreciate it, people!

So I’ll talk a little about my outfit… I accidentally wore a combination that gives the illusion of blue knee high boots. Oops. It didn’t look so bad in real life, but in photos you could most definitely mistake my trousers for boots!

Talking of boots… I officially have four pairs of Dr Martens thanks to winning the Facebook page give-away they run every week. Definitely worth the two minutes of filling it out because now I have another pair in my collection!

My Style: Woodland Bohemian Dreaming*

By January 24, 2016 My Style

So let’s start off by saying that this outfit probably seems quite different to the sorts of styles I featured in my aesthetics post… yes, it is quite different but firstly, it’s still rather retro with the seventies bohemian edge, but secondly, currently, this style is sort of the opposite side of the coin. It’s simple, with very little to it, but the print and style of the dress make-up for the lack of texture etc. You’ll see… you’ll see!

I’d had my eye on this dress for a while, so when it dropped down to a more reasonable price (for a teen), I knew I had to pick it up. As you’ve probably gathered from my previous outfit posts, I’m not really a huge dress wearer, so it’s quite unusual to see me so in awe of one… so this one of those rare occasions for sure!

It’s slightly brighter than on the website, but I don’t mind that because it’s blue, and I wear a lot of blue. Although the print is gorgeous, I can’t get over the fit and loose style. It’s going to be perfect for all year round… I mean, you could 100% pull of this look in summer time… maybe swap out the DMs (unless you’re feeling brave… your feet may boil) for some sandals and take off those cheeky little skin-coloured tights.

It’s a grown-up dress too… because I don’t own many dresses, it’s nice to pick out ones which are slightly more mature and real staples that I know I’ll have in my wardrobe for a long time. Ugh, I just love it. The splits too… I love a nice split!

I can’t talk about anything else than this dress. It’s just not possible…. so I’ll talk about a different aspect just in case you’re interested. Yes, it’s made in India. But actually, this is one of the very few non-ethical/sustainable purchases I’ve made in quite some time. I picked up some trousers from Mötivi which were made in Italy (I was very happy when I found this out), and a jumper from Pull & Bear which was made in Portugal, and most of my other new additions to my wardrobe have either been gifts or second-hand.

I’m pretty chuffed, and as I’ve mentioned in previously, I personally think it’s more about quantity over completely changing your shopping habits. Take small steps, and you’ll get there.

NOW PLAYING: I. flight of the navigator (Childish Gambino) 🎶

Of course I can’t forget to mention these shoes though. I officially have three pairs of Dr Martens in my collection (four if you count the pair that don’t fit me anymore, on my display shelf) and I couldn’t be more happy about this addition. I’ve had my eye on this pair for a while (I tried them on in a shop a while ago and they fit like a glove) as well as the classic cherry red DMs which the Italians seem to love, but I think I’ll wait a little while until adding them.

This pair are the the 1B99’s which have 14 eyelets and hit me about mid calf/mid shin. I was tempted by the knee-high DMs, but surprisingly these are actually a lot higher than just the usual 6/8 eyelet boots. For those of you who stay away from higher boots due to being thin, I really wouldn’t worry about these as although they have a little gap on me (mind you I am super small), they fit perfectly without any problems.

Overall I love them and they match my dress just as I had imagined (I basically bought this dress just to pair them up), and I can’t wait to style them up with shorts in the warmer months. I would 100% recommend them if you’re a Dr Martens fan and are looking to add a different style/shape to your selection.

Changing With The Seasons #6 – October, Autumn*

By October 22, 2015 Changing With The Seasons

It’s been a while since the last Changing With The Seasons post, hasn’t it? I unfortunately had to skip out August’s summer outfit so I’m back at you with an autumn edition! This is actually the penultimate outfit in this series for 2015 as we covered winter back at the start of the year, so I hope you enjoy it! So, this is how to dress for autumn…

I know this outfit is slightly cheeky again like the last one (you can read that CWTS here) as I have hidden the majority of the dress away, but I think it works. It’s an outfit that has enough sleekness to it that the casual jacket and fun touches from the Dr Martens make up for the lack of excitement in their own way. The colours all compliment each other really well in my opinion and it all starts with that dress.

I actually picked up this dress from ASOS for my Mooi en Lief by Tolly Dolly Posh lookbook (FREE with every order plus a FREE iron-on badge… heh) and now I’ve worn it like this, I’m obsessed. I even wore it the same day with some cosy stockings in the evening because it just look so bad ass. Also, doesn’t it look way more expensive than it is? I believe it was in the £25 price range so it’s doing a pretty good job…

Let’s talk about the jacket that’s taking up the majority of today’s post; I love it. I actually wear it a lot more in real life than on my blog so even if you only see it a couple of times… it gets a good amount of wearing. It was only €5 at a jumble sale and it looks awesome. My family call it my ‘Grandma jacket’ as my Grandma had a jacket in a very similar colour but I don’t mind because it’s just one of those weird but wonderful pieces that I can’t let go of.

Speaking of the jacket, it’s another appearance for my floral Dr Martens which compliment my outerwear rather well. The little patches on the sleeves just pick out the right colours in my boots meaning I can get away with the sudden burst of colour and print. Any excuse to wear Dr Martens, really…

~ STAY TUNED ON YOUTUBE ~

Now the thing is, I do have a CWTS YouTube video fully edited together but our WiFi is pretty darn awful, so it would currently take me over 6000 minutes to upload one, therefore I am leaving my link and putting in this picture to be replaced by a video in the very near future (hopefully). Fingers crossed on the ‘very near future’ part. I’ll let you know ASAP!

What do you think of this outfit? How would you have styled the skirt for autumn? Leave a comment below, letting me know! 🙂

Changing With The Seasons #5 – July, Summer*

By July 26, 2015 My Style

I’m sorry that of my very few recent posts, that today’s is another outfit, but I didn’t want to miss this month’s Changing With The Seasons post, so I just had to pop this up. I really hope you don’t mind! I’ll try and have some different kinds of posts up soon… I’m just still trying to get my mojo back. Anyway, here’s how to dress for summer…

Okay, let’s just jump to it… THIS. TWO. PIECE. I don’t even care if 99% of this post is just all about the jacket and skirt, because looook. at. it. You won’t believe this when I say it, but I picked this up for £5.00 at a jumble sale. It fits like a glove and it is just stunning. I probably styled it in a bit of an odd way, but I was just too excited to share it that I had to include it.

The print is just beautiful and gives that sort of modern vibe even though the set is obviously vintage. I’d say it is probably an 80s/90s piece due to the baggy arms and oversized feel, but I honestly don’t mind at all. I think it’s going to be so fun to style, especially as you can wear the jacket and skirt separately. No doubt you’ll see it in a future #OOTD!

Now let’s talk about what’s underneath (okay, well erm… I probably worded that wrongly)… firstly, the top. This is actually a fairly old ASOS purchase, which I don’t tend to wear as it’s a fairly scratchy material but I think it worked well for an added contrast of colour.

Next up, where is the blue skirt? It’s like the Where’s Wally? of an outfit post… but it’s fairly simple. So I didn’t cheat, and stayed tied up with the CWTS series, I popped the skirt underneath my new floral denim number and created a faux pleated hem. What d’ya think? Yay or nay?

And as I like to do for this lil’ series, here’s my video! It’s just a fun way to show you what the outfit’s really like on and get a bit creative. I think I may have had the exposure settings a bit wrong with this one, so sorry about the darkness, but I think it’s okay… I hope you enjoy a very rare YouTube appearance from me.

Hopefully I’ll be back soon with a very exciting announcement (hopefully) so do stay tuned! I think August is going to be a very busy and eventful month so hopefully in September I’ll be back to my usual self again, brimming with ideas and hopefully posting more designed based posts. That’s my goal! Until then… speak soon 🙂

Fast Food Fashion: Coca-Cola Float*

By June 12, 2015 My Style

I’m sorry I’ve been quiet for a few days, but it’s actually felt quite good to just let my blog sit for a while. I hope you didn’t miss me too much! 😉 Today I have the penultimate outfit in my mini fast food fashion series. Have you been enjoying it? I hope so! This is all about the drinks… well soft drinks, just to reassure you. I’m talking coke/coca-cola floats and all things yummy. Hmm yeah!

This outfit is super, super simple, but I feel like when styled in the right way, it has a sort of minimalistic aesthetic to it. I received this t-shirt when I won an ASOS voucher over on Hayley’s blog (she’s an awesome beauty blogger if any of you are interested) in collaboration with Diet Coke and I knew it would be perfect for this segment. It’s very oversized but paired with my structured skirt, the bagginess of it is counteracted.

I never really wear simple outfits because I always end up “ruining” (well, not really) them with weird pieces like the accessories I choose. It works in my mind though, it’s a little bit of this and that, mixed and stirred with my usually random personality…!

Talking of the accessories, I went for that New Look milkshake clutch, and I love how it picks out the colours from the rest of the outfit. Again, it’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Much like how you would make a coke float actually… a little bit of Coca-Cola and a little bit of ice cream! Hmm, they always remind me so much of the unlimited amounts my family and I would devour on holidays to Greece. Always take advantage of unlimited things!

Finally, let’s talk shoes. You all probably know about my love for these chunky platform Vagabonds, but heck, why not talk about them again? They’re a dream okay. If you like the look of heels but not the idea, get these! So comfy, amazing quality and also… they’re on sale! I paired them with these cheeky socks which are just the cherry on top (see what I did there?!). What d’ya think? 🍼

15 Birthday Wishes From Me To You

By May 19, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

Today is my 15th birthday! 🎉 Yes little me is half way to thirty, crazy right? I was thinking quite hard for what to write for today, and then an idea came to me. Because you guys follow this blog and give it so much love, I want my birthday wishes to be for you. So here are my 15th birthday wishes, which I need you to make come true!

15th Birthday Wishes - 15 Year Old Fashion Blogger(I haven’t dyed my hair… just in case you couldn’t tell, this is a bit of funky editing because I couldn’t find any other pictures!)

1. I wish that you realised you are beautiful just the way you are 😍

One of my biggest dreams is for people to realise that being themselves is the most perfect thing in the world. If I can inspire just one person to do that thing for them, or dress the way they want to dress, that would be the biggest wish come true.

2. I wish that nobody was labelled for being like this or that 👐

This wish and the next are quite connected. I just wish people weren’t judged for what they are. 99.9% of people are who they are because that’s just how life works. No-body is perfect and if we all accept that, then everyone will be perfect.

3. I wish that people understood that skinny shaming is also a “thing” ☝

I don’t care how many people say that “skinny people are lucky”, I will always say that skinny shaming is just as big as an issue as saying to someone their fat. I’ve written about my own experiences with this before, and Zoe (Zoe London) recently commented on it too. Please read both pieces.

4. I wish that people would think before they type 💻

Some people online still don’t realise that even if you don’t show your face, nasty words and comments, still hurt. I don’t deal with this personally but I know so many people do. In real life too… words. hurt.

5. I wish that everyone realised that comparison is the thief of joy 👭

In my 14th birthday blog post I put down this phrase as one of the 14 things I’ve learnt in 14 years, and it’s still in my mind. I’ve learnt since then that comparing people is just ridiculous because everyone has a completely different life and story, in every shape or form.

15th Birthday Wishes - 15 Year Old Fashion Blogger(Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind!)

6. I wish my favourite quote would be everyone else’s favourite quote too 🐱

Because even if The Cat In A Hat made it up (*cough* Dr Seuss *cough*), it’s something very special!

7. I wish that you would all go and support Fashion Revolution 👗

It’s a simple task; go support the campaign.

8. I wish that people would share the love more often 😘

I think this is truly important; not only because it’s just a kind thing to do, but because I believe what goes around, comes around.

9. I wish that the small things would seem beautiful to everyone 🌺

Life isn’t about great big, materialistic things. It’s about all the little details that are magical in their own unique way.

10. I wish hopes and dreams didn’t get crushed by one person saying “You can’t.” 🌞

Because YOU CAN.

15th Birthday Wishes - 15 Year Old Fashion Blogger

11. I wish that you will do one thing today that is out of your comfort zone 👍

Whether you wear something you never thought you’d wear, or you tell someone something you’d never usually say. Do something to make yourself feel proud!

12. I wish that everyone would be creative 🎨

It sounds weird, but we all have the capability. If you create something, then you’re creative. Give it a go, go and make something magical!

13. I wish that you could tell me how my blog helps you ❔

It might not, but it’s worth a try? Leave me a comment and tell me why (ooh, that ryhmes)!

14. I wish that in 15 years you’re wearing a piece of my clothing 🎽

A wish for me and for you. I hope that you’re wearing something that I’ve created and that you feel good in it. Make a mental note for 2030, yeah?

15. I wish that you make at least one of these things come true 💃

Simple.

What To Do When A Blog Post Goes Wrong

By May 4, 2015 General

I thought it would be a good time to write up a new blogging advice post! It’s been a nice gap since the last one (which you can read here), so here we are again! This post is about dealing with something I personally deal with quite a bit and that is when a blog post goes wrong, or at least when it doesn’t go according to plan. It’s a really irritating situation so I thought it would be good to help out those of you who also suffer with the same thing. Let’s do this!

when a blog post goes wrong - blogging advice tips and tricks

Don’t get in a fluster…

One of the biggest things I struggle with in this situation is getting stressed. When I have a perfect vision of how a blog post should be, I can get quite irritated with myself (and other people…) when it doesn’t go to plan. The best thing to do is to step back and think. Take yourself out of the situation and re-evaluate what you’re doing! This leads me onto the next step…

Put yourself in a different mindset…

Just like I said above, you need to think. Stop and think about how you could do things differently. Let’s say you’re taking outfit pictures; Is it the background that looks odd? Do you need to add an extra accessory to balance everything out? Do you simply need to tweak some settings on your camera?

Simple thoughts like this can help you decide whether the blog post has really gone wrong. Most of the time it’s just one small detail that’s out of place, so just ask yourself a few of those sorts of questions.

when a blog post goes wrong - blogging advice tips and tricks

Change what you’re trying to achieve…

It might sound weird but the main problem may just be what you’re trying to achieve. Let’s say this time that you’re taking pictures of your favourite shoes and you might be wearing them on your feet in the pictures, and it just isn’t working; Why not include them in outfit grids instead? Pop them on a plain floor and do different outfits! Or maybe try and achieve a cool, abstract photoshoot by putting them on your hands and editing the way it’s put together.

It sounds weird but just changing the main look and feel of a post can totally shift how you’re feeling about it. It might not be the way you had imagined it to work out, but it might just be the way that works out best.

If nothing seems to be going right, don’t waste what you’ve already done…

I know the temptation of wanting to delete all of the pictures and throw away all of the notes you had already drafted up, but don’t! When it all seems to be going wrong, what you’ve done so far might be perfect for something else. Let’s take this blog post for example! You see these pictures I’ve used? Well, I didn’t get enough of them to make them into a full outfit post (you can see that heredifferent location!) but I kept the ones I had, and now they’re here!

Don’t waste good work, even if it doesn’t seem good enough in the moment. Keep those ideas, pictures and notes close by, to transform them into something else that is completely different altogether.

when a blog post goes wrong - blogging advice tips and tricks

If you’re feeling under pressure, STOP!

Last but not least, if you really can’t help but get flustered, stop. It might just be that you’re rushing the idea, or it just wasn’t meant to be! Recently I was planning a blog post and because I was working with brands on it, I really got myself stressed over it not turning out perfect, so I ended up turning it into something I can manage; I took it from one great big post and chopped it up into a series (*cough* I mean my Fast Food Fashion outfit *cough*).

I really hoped this helped some of you! If it did, please make sure to leave a comment below! They’re now non-Disqus so you can leave one whenever and whoever you are! I’d love to know what you thought of these tips.

When the sun comes out, come out. For some reason it’s like my inner stylist pops out as soon as I can leave the house without a jacket, and I’m so glad. I really did think I’d lost my mojo for picking out cool outfits but I think today’s pickings are quite good. I would say that what I’m wearing isn’t to everyone’s taste but I’m okay with that. Speaking of being okay with that, would you mind clicking off after this post and filling out a quick survey I’m doing for some research? Tah!

I recently received these bizarre yet super funky Jonathan Aston tights from MyTights.com, and I knew I had to show them off in full form, so I went with my KENZO shorts (probably my favourite ever jumble sale buy) on top. I then added my cool (kids club) jumper 😉 I think the mix of 2 floral prints and 2 bold slogans is an interesting combination… what do you think?

This outfit shows that I’m obsessed with blue. It’s probably my favourite colour because it’s bold, versatile and suits every mood I’m in. My wardrobe seems to be full of blue floral prints and it just seemed to work in this outfit. It’s also told me that I need to go to some more jumble sales because they seriously do have hidden treasures. I mean… look at my shorts?! I’m pretty certain they were only €1.00!

My sunglasses are freakin’ awesome too. The shape is growing on me and the print is too. Of course just like my jumper, they’re from ASOS; Ahh, I love ASOS… I mean I LOVE ASOS.

So I suppose I should celebrate this jumble of an outfit! It’s full of rediscovered jems, interesting tights (that I’m also learning to love) and shorts which give out those spring/summer vibes. Here’s to making up outfits in the form of late night doodles and to posing infront of brightly coloured doors. Roll on the summer! 😀

How To Create Your Own Outfit Collage Template

By February 7, 2015 General

As you will know, I love outfit posts. I love reading, writing, creating and drooling over them, so I thought I would help you guys out. I know how annoying it is to go onto another website and have to put together a collage, or put two images together, exactly central etc etc, so I’ve come up with an 8-step tutorial on how to create your own outfit collage template, to use time and time again! You can do this in either Photoshop or Pixlr, but today I’m using Photoshop CS4 (on Windows).

How To Make an Outfit Collage Template in Photoshop

STEP 1

Create a new transparent file. Make sure it’s the correct size you want, because it’s easier than re-sizing it at the end. Just in case you are wondering, all my blog images are 620px wide.

STEP 2

Select the line tool. You may want it to have some sort of effect on it, maybe you want it to look like a paint stroke? Fiddle around and see what you think works best! I prefer just a simple straight line.

STEP 3

Choose your preferred colour. I chose white as it blends well with my blog’s background, making it look like the images are separated by formatting.

STEP 4

Choose the weight/width of your line, this can be as thick or as thin as you want. I went for 10px wide in Photoshop.

STEP 5

Draw your straight line. You don’t need to center it at the moment, just concentrate on making sure it’s perfectly straight! Easy as pie.

STEP 6

Press Ctrl + A (Select All), then go to Layers, then Align Layers to Selection, clicking on Horizantal Centers. This will make sure it is dead straight in the middle. Of course, if you want it slightly off center, then just drag it to where you want it, and ignore this step.

STEP 7

You then want to right click on the line’s layer, and click on Rasterize Layer. This sort of flatten’s the layer so that it’s easier to manage.

STEP 8

The last step is to save your file as either a .PNG or a .PSD. You may want to save it as a .PNG file so you can open it in other softwares when you don’t have Photoshop to hand… just as long as it is transparent then you’ll be fine!

~ HOW TO USE YOUR TEMPLATE ~

So obviously, you are wondering…. so how do I use my template? Well, it’s super simple. Follow these four simple steps and you’ll have your very own, personalised, template for outfit pictures (or anything else, pictures)…

How To Make an Outfit Collage Template in Photoshop

STEP 1

Open up your file, and the two images which you wish to put side by side. I usually go for either 2 full lengths, or 1 full length and a detail!

STEP 2

Go to your template file, and select one half of the template (make sure you haven’t selected your line down the middle).

STEP 3

Copy one of the images you opened up, go back to your template, and press Ctrl + Shift + V (Paste Into). This will put the image into just that one half. Drag and re-size the image to how you want it to look. The bits of the image that aren’t visible, go underneath the line and aren’t deleted, so you can move it around a bit afterwards!

STEP 4

Repeat with the over half, selecting and pasting into the correct space… and voila! A perfect outfit template.

To make this even more personalised or custom, you could add more lines to create a grid, or have an image floating in it’s own space. It’s really all down to ‘Paste Into’, so you can be really creative with it! Good Luck!
