Is Menswear Sustainable? | Pitti Uomo 92

By June 16, 2017 Fashion

If you haven’t heard already, this week I attended my very first Pitti Immagine event, Pitti Uomo 92. Pitti is one of the largest fashion events in Europe, bringing together brands and designers to showcase their work not only to buyers but also to the press. Not only was I there for my own personal blog, I was also writing a short piece for The Florentine magazine, which you can read here.

locationLOCATION: Pitti Uomo 92
Fortezza da Basso, Florence, Italy 🇮🇹

Pitti Uomo is the menswear event under the Pitti name (uomo is ‘man’ in Italian) and this year, the theme for the events is ‘Boom Pitti Blooms, focusing on flowers with colour, patterns and textures, with the art direction by Sergio Colantuoni who says, “The theme is also a metaphor for our fairs, of what fertile ground they are for new and often unusual creative expressions.”

I didn’t know exactly what to expect from the event but as I soon realised, one of the major purposes of Pitti is for brands to reach out to new buyers and distributors, so it was interesting coming in from a blogger angle. Of course, on my blog, I focus mainly on womenswear and in particular, ethical and sustainable womenswear, so I planned to go in learning more about how ethics fit into menswear. As already mentioned, I was also there to write for The Florentine and you can read my 5 point sustainable round-up if that takes your fancy.

It was hard to resist following the crowd and not taking some time to grab some street-style photos. It was 33°C on the day I attended, so I have to applaud the attendees dressed to the nines. In true fashionable style, I overheard one person say, “Even if I faint, it’s worth it.”.

If you’re in need of some sartorial style inspiration then Pitti Uomo is the place to be. It most definitely reinstated my love for tailoring and sleek suits. Those Pitti Peacocks are well dressed, albeit extremely hot and sticky.

locationSAVE THE DUCK

I discovered Save The Duck a while before Pitti, knowing of their collaborations between Christopher Raeburn who is one of my favourite designers due to how he repurposes materials and is committed to that way of thinking across his whole brand. Actually talking to their team and understanding how they too, are extremely focused on being as sustainable as they can be, was rather inspiring.

Their latest collection for summer is their Recycled range, which is made of recycled materials from the lining to the zipper, and even uses recycled ‘Plumtech‘, which is their innovative material to replace feathers used in outerwear, making their brand vegan and sustainable. And although they manufacture their pieces in China, I was reassured that factories have to be certified in order to work with Save The Duck. Visiting their booth was most definitely my Pitti highlight, on par with meeting Christopher himself and attending their last collaborative presentation. I’ll be posting a piece dedicated to the collection, shortly.

locationPRESIDENT’S

Although Pitti Uomo and the other Pitti fairs are open to worldwide exhibitors, of course being in Italy allowed for there to be plenty of brands Made In Italy. President’s use organic cotton in their shirts and tops and dye their leathers with vegetable tanning, so they’re on the right track.

Their brand, although sticking to traditional Tuscan craft, is modern and fresh and is a brand I will be keeping a close eye on whilst I travel the area. You can read more about President’s here.

locationSTUTTERHEIM

And last, but most definitely not least, is Stutterheim, a Swedish raincoat brand who surprised me with their upfront honesty on where they stand on sustainability. John Laster, one of the directors of the company was very open when talking to me, sharing the fact that their materials are most certainly not of a sustainable nature with PVC coming from oil, of course. This doesn’t however, mean they’re entirely going down the wrong path. I and John both agreed that mindset can often be more important than fabrics…

“I think the biggest strain on the environment today is the buying and throwing away of things. It doesn’t matter if it’s made organic or not; use it five times and throw it away, use it for one season and it’s not sustainable.”

As I said, I will have another post up soon about the Christopher Raeburn presentation but for now, that is all from me at Pitti Uomo this season. You may just see me at the knitwear event, Pitti Filati, sometime soon…

What do you think of Italian menswear? Have you heard of any of these brands? Let me know in the comments!

ASOS Women’s & Men’s Bargain Finds: Under £20

By July 10, 2013 Fashion, My Style

WOW! It has been a heck of along time since I did some full on ‘bloggy woggy’ stuff hasn’t it? I have missed it very much, so here is a double decker post! A very odd, 9, ASOS bargains for both men and women! I hope you enjoy the old me again! Haha! Also, scroll down for something extra special! Yes, I do mean my Girl Talk feature! Eeep!

asos1

1. Shiny Pu Jacket £14.00, 2. Petite Exclusive Tie Dye Skinny Jeans £10.50, 3. Fetch Leather Studded Sandals £10.50, 4. Peace Sign Skinny Waist Belt £2.00 & 5. T-Shirt With Embellished David Bowie £17.50.

PU Jacket: I don’t really know why, but I LOVE this jacket! I would never go for something like it, but it just looks quite unusual! It’s a right bargain too in the sale! Hopefully if I get some more dosh, I will be able to grab it before it goes off the site! I would probably wear it with some nice smart printed trousers, or a jumpsuit.

Skinny Jeans: Again, what a bargain?! These are so cute! They would be perfect for summer with a nice neon top and some sandals. For £11.00, you can’t really go wrong with these jeans!

Sandals: I have been needing some sandals for ages now, and these are so cute! I love the multi coloured studs and the fact that they look quite comfy is a plus too. I prefer sandals with wider strappy bits so they feel more secure on my tiny feet!

Belt: Just like the PU Jacket, I’m not really sure why but I kinda’ love this belt? It’s very cheap and cheerful, and for £2.00 I am thinking maybe to buy it! It would be nice with a maxi skirt or a jumpsuit!

David Bowie Top: HELLO! OMG. This top is so cool! If you are a lover like of the legend himself, just like me my whole family, then I believe you may need this. It is quite expensive, and I am sure you could find a good dupe, but I love how it is embellished, and it looks quite slouchy, so it is a nice tuckable(?! – I do make up some funny words!) top.

6. Primark Mickey Mouse Sweat Top £8.00, 7. Cropped Boyfriend Sweatshirt £16.00, 8. Green Tort Wayfarer with Mirror £7.00 & 9. Round Sunglasses with Multi Colour Mirror Lens £15.00

Mickey Mouse Sweatshirt: There are quite a few reasons I shouldn’t even be looking at this jumper. 1 – I simply do not have the cash, 2 – The weather is *fingers crossed* staying hot from now on, and 3 – Primark on ASOS don’t ship abroad! I know it’s a UK brand, but you would have thought that would be a reason for going on ASOS! #rage. However, you guys in the UK are very lucky because you can buy this amazingly cute and retro sweatshirt. You lucky devils.

Cropped Sweatshirt: Again, I really shouldn’t be looking at sweatshirts when it is 35 degrees outside.. *oops* but I just LOVE this one! It’s a really nice colour and I love how it is cropped. You could make this really dressy with smart trousers, or simple and casual with a pair of jeans or shorts. Simple but sweet!

Mirrored Wayfarers: These are actually from the men’s section at ASOS, but I LOVE them! I used to own a £1 pair similar to these from Primark, but when we moved house, sadly they passed away – RIP Mirrored Lens *sob sob* – but these are even better! They have such a cool print and a nice lens colour!

Round Mirrored Sunglasses: Again, sticking with the theme of men’s mirrored lenses, these are AMAZING!! I have been really loving LLYMLRS blog and she has been rocking a plain black pair of these. I simply need them in my life. NOW…. sadly my bank account does not agree.

I hope you like the bargains I found! Moving on to the extra special thing… LOOK! It’s me in Girl Talk! I was only expecting to be in the magazine and on the plastic sleeve, but it was quite a nice surprise when I saw my face on the cover! WOOP! It would make my day if you could pick it up! Sorry these aren’t amazing quality pictures, but I have put a PDF image below too!! Thanks so much for your support once again! Love you guys!

Menswear: Jules

By January 2, 2013 Fashion

Today, I was out and about in a near city (Albi), and my sister’s boyfriend needed a jumper, so we looked at a few shops, and found Jules. Now, this shop isn’t exactly amazingly different, but we all found it rather trendy for men looking for some smart, new clothes, at quite a reasonable price. So, here’s a quick look at the new collection for 2013 🙂 Plus, some of my favourite men’s pieces…

Colour Block Jumper €35.99, Button Jacket Cardigan €49.95 & Fantasy Jumper €29.99.

I think my favourite is the Colour Block Jumper, I think it’s going to be very big this upcoming season, so guys, get thinking about that! But, I also love the Button Jacket Cardigan because you can make it work in loads of different ways, like, by adding a scarf, or a nice blue shirt, for a casual look and more smart look.

Chino €44.95, Slim Trousers €49.95 & Straight Jean €49.99.

My favourite pair of trousers, is probably the ones in the middle. They have sort of a metallicy shine to them, and they can also be used in a casual way or a smart way. Wear boots for a casual look, and nice work shoes for a smarter look.
