Scrap Social #6 – The Last Few Pages

By December 15, 2015 Scrap Social

Look who’s back-back-back again! Both myself and our good little friend Scrap Social! I totally forgot of this series over the past few months so I’m back and I hope to still be doing it in the New Year! This is actually a showcase of the last few pages of this scrapbook. You’ll probably be mad at me for this but this scrapbook was finished in March… *gulps* so I will definitely have a new one to show you after this… don’t worry!

These pages unintentionally matched… I just suddenly realised after finishing them up that the model on the left page, had very similar sandals on to the ones from the postcard on the right. I loved the free spirit of the editorial piece on the left, so I added some fun little doodles around it… which sort of adds a contrast to the rough edges that I decided on to go with the natural backdrop and colour palette. To match the doodles, I added a border of ‘HAHAHAHAHA’ to the edge of the postcard (this one was featured in my Scrap Social Essentials post actually!), and some extra outlining as per usual. I love the colours of this page combo!

Another page combo with a nice colour palette are these two which I made up from a Claudie Perlot advertorial. I absolutely love the aesthetic it had, so I added a few other elements to it and I’m really happy with the effect. As I mentioned above, as per usual, there is some of my well known outlining again, which I think adds the finish touch. Sometimes pages don’t have to make sense in terms of telling a story, they just make sense in an artistic sense. Matching colours and creating a ‘vibe’ is what is important. Don’t ya’ think? Also – note the Hozier lyrics!

Yes, that is indeed the final page. It’s an odd one, once again using some postcards which have an old/retro vibe to them. Sometimes I genuinely have no idea where I’m going with pages so they end up being really odd and this is a great example. I like it though, it has a nice message to it in a sense, even if the picture has no relevancy to it whatsoever. The bottom postcard I used was kind of weird and gross in some aspects (sloppy hot dogs from what looks like the 90s in a public swimming pool?!) but adding some captions and the BORING sign made it tie in nicely.

It’s actually interesting to compare the first and last page of my scrapbook because they’re so vastly different in colour scheme and style. You can see I stuck to Biro scribbles throughout, but you can definitely notice a change. You can see it for yourself if you like, take a click through this year’s Scrap Social scrapbook!

15 Pins On Pinterest That I’m Loving

By May 23, 2015 Fashion

Recently I’ve really started to love Pinterest. It’s like a nicer, less stressful version of Tumblr. You can still find those grungey pictures that inspire you on a dark Friday night, but you can also find pastel doughnuts and lots and lots of tulle. It’s a winner for everyone! I decided to pick out a few gems that I’ve pinned recently in this “pins on Pinterest” post! Enjoy…

15 Pins On Pinterest - Fashion Inspiration Board

~ FOLLOW ME ON PINTEREST – ALL IMAGES PINNED HERE ~

1 – 3: Luxurious textures…

I’ve been loving textures that express all things luxurious recently. From organzas to satins, silks and marbles, I’m just in love! I’m actually going to be buying some organza for a DIY soon *cough* you can probably see what it’s for here *cough*…

4 – 6: Complimenting colours…

These three images really compliment each other but they also offer a lot of inspiration for either beauty, drinks or fashion. Plus, who doesn’t love a bit of Susie Bubble? She’s my style inspiration 24/7.

7 – 9: Deep and dark…

Getting slightly more grungey here but still pretty darn cute, I picked out this awesome pair of DMs with flowers through the laces and this poem that was created with a typewriter and receipt. Some really unique ideas!

10 – 12: Pinks…

I feel like I’ve been loving pink recently even if I don’t necessarily wear it a lot in real life. It’s just a nice colour and I love seeing it in different forms rather than just the normal girly-girl styles.

13 – 15: Shimmer and splash…

I will forever be a lover of sparkles. I also love stickers and the seaside so I suppose these 3 images portray a few of my loves. Now that I think about it, I’d love to do something with stickers… hmmm!

Scrap Social #2: Experimenting With Texture

By September 30, 2014 Scrap Social

Wahey! It’s time for my next scrapbook round-up! If you didn’t catch Scrap Social #1, then makes sure to do that! Basically for you new people around here (hiiiii), it’s a little project I started to get me off the internet from time-to-time… with sharing being the ‘social’ part. You guys seemed to really like the first one, so here’s another… Like before, most cuttings are from different magazines and catalogues.

These four pages are generally quite similar in style to those of the first post. They’re quite full, they have lots of doodles and are quite fresh and cute. I really like the sort of ‘Lazy Oaf’, cartoon style vibe that the first page (page 12 to be precise) brings and the contrast of pages 14 & 15. They’re fun, and they all inspiring for different moods. Those love hearts took me a while to doodle in though! 🙂

I then sort of randomly went for a more minimalist feel and basically started to stick things on top of each other… random yes, but I like it. I especially love the sort of metallic, liquid metal page. The other page was really an experiment with texture, with a cut of piece of a Topshop sunglasses case, which adds a cool effect. Anything random can come together in it’s own unique way, it really is just a case (I’m so funny) of trying everything out. I added even more texture with some gold stars… I love the way the blue fluffy coat in this editorial picture contrasts with the black doodles. The Whitepepper magazine came in handy for this weird abstract page. Doodling things which would ‘make sense’ seems to work… like the wet dripping hair.

These 2 pages are probably my favourite out of this selection. I just love the way they look together. For the first page I used a Celine advert, cutting a section from it out, and covering the white in doodle flowers (I do love them!) It creates a really nice feel and I think it will be great for inspiration. The next page really is a ‘scrapbook’ page… I used scraps from my scrapbook, tearing them up and sticking them in random places. I then dripped black watercolour over it and I am so pleased! The pieces of torn paper are only stuck down in one place so they over lap and ping up. I just love it! What do you think? I definitely want to experiment with texture some more.

The last page of this Scrap Social post is slightly more obscure. It’s a mix between love and Bohemia… weird or what. I’m not 100% sure on the kissing page… it’s very odd but maybe that’s the beauty of it. The other page is cute though, it’s young and fresh and it all matches nicely. I love the way it all ties in together.

What did you think of this #ScrapSocial post? Which was your favourite page? Do let me know in the comments below! Don’t forget to share your scrapbook photos with the hashtag #ScrapSocial 🙂 See you soon!

Scrap Social #1: The First Few Pages

By August 11, 2014 Scrap Social

I had an old notebook lying around, a spare few moments and an idea. I took several Company magazine’s, some scissors and a glue stick, and started a little scrapbook. I think I mainly decided to do this as a source of inspiration, but also because I wanted something creative to do instead of reaching to the iPad/internet when I became remotely bored. I decided to call it ‘Scrap Social’.. aka, scrapping social media… whilst scrap booking. Dah-dah! #ScrapSocial ✌ (Cuttings etc are mostly from Company/Vogue etc etc…)

The first few pages are fairly random, but somehow I managed to make the first two look fairly Tumblr-esque which I am quite proud of! I think the fun in scrap-booking is how random it is allowed to be. Let your mind run free! I feel like the more random it looks the better… you can see with my third page it isn’t quite perfect as I attempted to make it look like some kind of story or whatever, in the end it ended up in a mess, but that’s the joy of this idea. You can see how your inspiration becomes even more artistic as the pages go on!

The fourth page is probably my most favourite. It’s super cute, yet the flowers and doodles add a spontaneous twist. I added some nail art pieces to this page to make it more three dimensional and more textured, but if you don’t have anything to use, try different papers… more about that towards the end!  I love how the next page really fits in with the whole feel of the previous one… it’s sort of geometric with a girly edge. I think the best way to make a scrapbook feel more individual is to do spontaneous scribbles. It makes it come to life! I also want to try sewing to make it look like the paper has been stitched… we shall see!

I believe colour and text is another way to really make your scrapbook more fun. I experimented with it in these four pages.. I think I prefer it when it’s already there for you… my doodle-y handwriting is not the best! I also tried felt tips and stickers. I’m all for the stickers, but I’m still deciding on felt tips… what do you think?

Okay I lied about that other page being my favourite. These ones are! As I got more into doing these pages, I feel like I have found my feet. Flower sketches, matching colours and biro pen doodles are my favourite techniques! I just love the way it looks. I even stuck a false flower on the last page… rebel! Even if I am saying it myself… this just looks so pretty!

So we come to the end of the first #ScrapSocial round up! I’ve listed a few tips and tricks below just in case you are interested! I’d love to see some of you lovely people getting involved. Let’s scrap social media (well, not completely), start getting creative and share how we get a long!

  • Don’t pay out on a fancy book! Most notebooks will do the job nicely… I actually love the effect it gives.
  • Use magazines with matte paper! I think it gives the best effect… but of course you can experiment with different textures.
  • Biros are your best friend! Pencils are cool, but pens are better.
  • Don’t stick to one theme, let your mind go wild.

Leave a comment letting me know if you have started a scrap book recently and if you will be getting involved with #ScrapSocial!

Monthly Obsessions: Tumblr, Carrie & Doodles

By January 17, 2014 DIY & Lifestyle, Fashion

I’m back! It’s been so long! I actually feel excited to be writing again! I’m so glad none of you got too upset I was gone 😉 I had a lovely 16 days of chilling with my family and getting lots of baby smiles! I shall not babble on for too long, and tell you how I have been waiting so long to do this post! I’ve been wanting to do a ‘monthly favourites’ sort of post but not things like clothing/products I’ve worn and used, more like things that I have seen and enjoyed looking at… hmm… you’ll get the gist! 😉 (Images from Tumblr/Etsy)

I don’t really count it as a blog because all I did really was outfits, but after that I sort of left Tumblr, and now I’m back, and oh am I glad. I get so much inspiration from browsing and re-blogging people’s posts. I now know what Pastel Grunge is and I have been left quite confused about what Sea Punk is? I like to post weird and wonderfully coloured things, GIFs of Eddie Redmayne, and gorgeous doodles. If you have Tumblr do let me know because I would love to follow you! You can follow me here or click on the button in the sidebar!

monthly obsessions tumblr carrie diaries outfits freya flavell doodles cryybaby etsyFreya Flavell Does Doodles – I actually found Freya on Tumblr, and I’m in love with her doodles! They are so simple, yet so cute and colourful and she should be really proud of her work. I love finding illustrators who are young and obviously love what they are doing. Her drawings also give me inspiration for outfits and my future hair when I can face up to the fact that everybody and their dogs (that is actually true, their was a programme on it) dyes their hair, and that I will probably end up doing a full shabang rather than just dip dye. Talking of dip dye, doesn’t that purple hair on that one illustration look awesome? Make sure you check out Freya here!

monthly obsessions tumblr carrie diaries outfits freya flavell doodles cryybaby etsyThe Carrie Diaries – Seeing as I am a little bit young for Sex In The City, I recently started watching the prequel with my sister whilst she was over, and even though this is still quite rude and eye boggling at times, (only watch it if you are 13 and over, I warned you) but I really do enjoy it. I enjoy it so much that I am now up to date with the current season. I have ordered the book too so I’m excited to see how well they have portrayed Carrie. Anna-Sophia Robb was a good pick though, she is a really good actress and I have always been fond of her work. Plus, if you want some outfit ideas, then watch this show… or you could follow my Carrie Diaries Outfit Tumblr! 😉

Whilst searching on Tumblr (surprise surprise), I found Mimi’s store, Cryybaby from Etsy. Being a teen myself (oh my dear waffles (umm) I’m 14 this year!) I love supporting fellow teens, and I love Mimi’s stuff! It’s all so simple, but so cute and pretty darn cheap too! I’m actually going to get a custom necklace made which is pretty cool! Make sure you check out her store! It’s pretty cool!
