I am so glad I came across this post on the Guardian! I totally agree with these Teen Vogue readers.
Girls who read Teen Vogue, need to be encouraged to feel good in their natural skin. Seeing pictures of teen celebrities, air brushed and pampered, is not what they need to be seeing. Like the latest TV ads from Dove, about girl’s self esteem (Click the link for more info!), it shows that girls are worried about what people may think about how they look, and how they feel, and seeing people who look ‘perfect’, is not a great way of boosting their confidence. If you want to feel safe in their own skin, then models and teen celebrities should be natural to the public. Air brushing is a way of showing off no natural beauty, and covering up it all. Yes, the magazine companies want their magazine cover to look the best it can, but maybe it can look great without the Photo-shop editing!
I am totally on your side girls!
I must say selling my iPod has really payed off! I have been able to buy 2 things I have been wanting for ages! Plus, the 70% ASOS Sale is brilliant! £4.50 for Nail Rock & £2.70 for a Swallow Ear Cuff!
Here’s a collection for Summer, all from Boots. This collection is for a natural look, and it’s quite cheap!
As it is basically Exam time right now, I thought I would do a post, on a few things you could treat yourself to after all the work! Take a look…
The 2 which are my favorites, are Circus by Britney Spears & the Holystone Bag. I love the fragrance by Britney Spears, it smells really fresh, and slightly fruity, which I love! I also love the Holystone Bag which one of my friends from school, bought a similar version of, and it is really good value for what it is, I recommend it!
I was looking through Company Magazine, and decided to do a post on new Hairstyle Trends. The one, I love, has got to be the ‘Sherbet Dip’. Stars like Dakota Fanning & Selena Gomez, are rocking this look by using Pastel coloured dyes. Take a look…
I was looking up the latest Fashion news, when I stumbled across a post  from last year; It was about the Vogue Magazine which Adele starred in last Winter. The cover of the magazine was a picture of Adele, all done up, with nice hair and gorgeous make-up; but you could only see her face. The rest of the post went onto say that it was the ‘one-size-fits all policy’. So, it made me think. Why do the bigger sized percentage of the Fashion Industry, just simply, get blocked out?
Well; you could say that it doesn’t completely get blocked out, because some stores do separate clothing lines for the curvier people around. But, mostly it kinda’ does; It’s the same with people with deformities, they just get stereo-typed into the ‘Fat & Ugly’ group. Personally, I think that, that statement is wrong. Curvy people should be proud to be walking around in clothes that wouldn’t suit a smaller person. So, what’s wrong with having Adele’s full body on the cover of Vogue? In the Fashion Industry’s point of view; ‘everything’.  Models ‘need to be’ size 6/8, between the height of 5.9”/5.11”, and need to have the ‘perfect look’, well after being airbrushed etc etc. Adele is very pretty, and has very good style. But she is not the above standards. She maybe a celebrity and she maybe an award winning superstar singer, but she still isn’t allowed her full body on Vogue Magazine’s front cover.
What’s wrong with a Plus Size women, or a man with a physical deformity? They can still do the same job, they can still pose in front of the camera!?
But, then again there’s the fact that the models need to be smaller so that young girls can believe that one day they will be as perfect as the ones on the front cover of their favourite magazine. Which is impossible, as all models are airbrushed, done up, and edited all on computer. Â So, really the fashion industry is being a bit stereo-typical to those who are a bit bigger than your average model.
I want to see more curvier women on the front of magazines, and then I will be satisfied. I maybe only 11 years old (soon to be 12!) but I can have an opinion. But, I am glad to say that the most recent Vogue cover with Adele, did show a bit more of her! 🙂
The new trends for Nail Colour in Spring/Summer 2012 – or should I say Winter, according to the latest weather reports -, include Reds, Pinks, Neutral Colours, Pearls & Sparkly! Take a look at some from Models Own…
Keep in trend with these funky colours, and don’t forget to try the good old, French Manicure! Don’t be afraid to try doing it with colour!  Fashion is all about experimenting 🙂
