A Love Story to My Clothes | Fashion Revolution Week 2017

By April 26, 2017 Ethical

Fashion Revolution Week was created after the Rana Plaza factory disaster in 2013. The factory home to many big name fast-fashion brands collapsed, killing over 1,100 people and injuring thousands more. In order to create change within the fashion industry, transparency is needed across the board as well as commitment to ethics and sustainability. Fashion Revolution asks you to get involved by sharing a photo/selfie of your favourite clothes asking the brand, #WhoMadeMyClothes?

One of the ways Fashion Revolution is trying to inspire people to care more about their wardrobe’s impact is getting them to write a ‘love story’ to some of the items we own so that we can spend a moment to really appreciate what hangs on all of our hangers or what is tucked away in our drawers…

Fashion Revolution 2017 Love Story Haulternative

Dear Metallic Dr Martens,

Honestly, I didn’t spend a single penny on you (the perks of being a blogger), but that doesn’t mean that I don’t value you. You took months to wear in and your laces now need repairing, but you still look as shiny and beautiful as ever.

I don’t know who made you but I would like to find. I’d like to think you’ll last me well as that’s what DMs are meant to do.

Tolly 💋

Fashion Revolution 2017 Love Story Haulternative

Dear Yellow Leather Jacket,

One of the saddest words is ‘almost’. I almost didn’t have you in my life. You attract people to you; you’re vibrant and bold and joyful in your yellow hue. So, it’s no surprise that on the day you entered my life you were being pulled in different directions because other people like you so much too!

I was unsure of you at first but I haven’t stopped loving you or wearing you and because you’re so durable and of such a high quality, even though you’ve been loved before, I know that I will continue to do so.

Love from your constant wearer,
Tolly 💋

Dear ASOS Slogan Sweatshirts…

I bought you a few years ago in the sale because you were within my teenage budget. Luckily the spur of the moment purchase didn’t go to waste because I wear you every autumn.

Again, I’m not sure who made you or how much they earned to make you but I know I put you to good use.

Thanks for keeping me warm,
Tolly 💋

My Style: See Through*

By September 13, 2016 My Style

It’s been quite some time since I’ve posted a fully fledged outfit post, My Style or ‘editorial‘, so before I crack on with fashion week content, I thought I’d keep you in the loop with what I’ve been wearing recently. I’ve been rediscovering old gems in my wardrobe, starting to transition into autumn and have been picking up some more second-hand treasures…

WHAT I WORE: Mesh Grid Top (Blue Vanilla)* // Grey Sheer Hem Slip Dress €6.00 (Jumble Sale) // Shark Purse (ASOS) // 1B99 Dr Martens (Mastershoe-MyShu)* // Rings (Various

The amount of colour I wear has definitely dropped by a fair amount in recent times, so I find myself gravitated towards darker pieces that are usually in minimalistic shapes, like this slip dress that I spotted on the back of a door at a jumble sale. I’m so glad it caught in the corner of my eye because it’s something I never knew I needed but is almost something I’ve unknowingly been looking for.

I think the location of its original home put me off at first (an old lady’s living room – so it was probably owned by an elderly woman before me), but I think that’s something that you have to look past when it comes to secondhand shopping, because really, if I hadn’t had mentioned it was secondhand – I totally could have pulled it off as a high street piece, right?

There’s just something so effortless about being able to literally slip it on, whether that’s on its own or layered on top of something…

  LOCATION: Senigallia, IT  🇮🇹

…which is what I did, this time around, with an item I haven’t worn in a while. Due to its almost plastic texture, I don’t wear this mesh grid top very often, but I’ve kept it in my wardrobe for, as I mentioned, layering. The dress is slightly lower in the neck than I’d usually go, so if I’m in the need for covering up, adding a thin layer underneath which doesn’t take away from its fit can be quite useful. I also don’t want anything to take away from the straps, because they’re doubled up and it adds that touch of ‘sophistication’, I suppose.

I didn’t go completely colourless either! I know most people associate pastels with spring, but in my opinion, icy, cool tones work really well in the cooler seasons too… not that it’s particularly cool in Italy right now; I think my frizzy hair is a testament to the humidity!

I believe my way of accessorising this outfit is what caused people to stare at me in what I would class as a fairly ‘normal’ outfit (but who cares about normal, eh?). Yes, that is indeed a shark shaped purse. I’m not sure if I’ve featured it on my blog, but it was a gift from my brother and is one of those more wearable novelty items, even if it can barely fit my essentials in it. The grey matches up with the mesh floral print within the dresses hem, and the silver matches my rings because I’m officially a big ring person.

The ring on my left middle finger is now a permanent ring… I even have a tan line forming, and I’m quite intrigued to know how long it will be staying put for! Years, maybe?! My Dr Marten’s are also a fairly permanent fixture on my feet because the weather is cooler now, so I can get away with wearing them without my feet boiling out. Sad news, though; there’s a small bit of stitching which has come apart on the right zip, which is a shame because I haven’t even had them for a year yet! The first Dr Martens fault I’ve ever had! I’m definitely going to be getting in touch because that’s obviously a little sad.

How would you have worn this dress? What have you been wearing recently? Let me know in the comments!

My Style Editorial & GIVE-AWAY: Desert Rebelle*

By April 6, 2016 Competitions, My Style

Today’s My Style post is slightly more editorial hence the slightly wider post and the ‘read more’ button for those of you on my homepage. I’m super happy with these photos, so here’s a big shout out to Papa Posh and all his hard work. He’s been my photographer since the beginning and he’s come such a long way. I won’t be talking too much in this post, so just appreciate the mini shoot… and also a little give-away at the end!

Not only is this actual shoot rather editorial, but the outfit itself is kinda’ high-fashion inspired in my opinion. It’s mainly inspired by the desert with my gorgeous new Scotch R’Belle cap which itself has a desert inspired print with camels and pyramids making an appearance. It’s also got those floaty, wind catching vibes with the dress (which is one of my favourite recent purchases).

It’s still not perfectly warm and sunny at the moment, so I have a pair of leggings underneath, topped off with my trusty Nike trainers to tie in all of the colours. It’s sporty, it’s simple, but it still has a lot of depth and texture going on throughout. My new favourite combination, I think!

Scotch R’Belle is actually the teen range of Scotch & Soda who also have Maison Scotch under their name; I’ve owned one of their blouses for a while now so to have some more specifically teen focused items in my wardrobe from them, makes me particularly happy. Everything’s such lovely quality too, and because of that, I’m going to give away a little something for you! Scroll on down for more details…

Wishlist: Patchwork Denim, Red, White & Blue*

By March 10, 2016 Wishlist

I haven’t put up a wishlist style post in a while, so seeing as a new season is about to set in, I thought I’d put one up. I’ve been seeing a lot of patchwork denim around the place as well as the still ever growing trend of embroidered badges so that’s basically what this consists of. You can see which are my favorites below…

SS16 Trends Wishlist Patchwork Denim - ASOS Dr Martens River Island SPRINGTIME

Heels (River Island @ ASOS) // Surrender Badge (Rosie Wonders @ ASOS) // Purse (Springtime)* // Clutch (SPRINGTIME)* // Skirt (ASOS) // Rose Badge (Rosie Wonders @ ASOS) // Dr Martens (Dr Martens) // Wallet (SPRINGTIME)* // Pinafore (ASOS)

I’m ever so slowly becoming a shoe person, and I’m also ever so slowly starting to fall in love with heels (eek!) and this combination of a shoe, heel, denim and patchwork has me with heart shaped eyes. I’m not sure the boot style would actually fit my very slim figure though… which is a shame because they really are quite delightful.

To match those, this dress and and this skirt would work perfectly. I’ve actually had my eye on that patchwork denim pinafore for a while now and I’m thinking it would look pretty great this summer with a crisp white blouse (which I’m now an owner of – it’s a Stradivarius number) underneath and then quite possibly a cool pair of Dr Martens on my feet… these Valentine’s pair are pretty funky, right?

In terms of the accessories, like I mentioned, it seems that embroidered patches aren’t going anywhere soon and I’m pretty happy about that… did I mention that my socks come with a free embroidered badge, yet?

I’ve included a few SPRINGTIME pieces there too because I love what they’re brand is all about. You may have noticed the new addition to my sidebar, which has a handy link straight to their site. When the lovely team got in touch with me, I knew I had to work with them because they have such an awesome message about achieving your dreams and spreading that passion to everyone around you. I’m all for it and the fact that they’re pieces are all very denim orientated… well it makes them that much better.

What have you been wishing for recently? Let me know in the comments!

My Style: Public Outfit Display of Affection*

By March 6, 2016 My Style

The reason this outfit is having a public display of affection is because this is probably the most public My Style outfit shoot I’ve ever done. There were people looking for sure which definitely makes you feel a little weird but what can I say? This is the time of the internet, you should know the drill by now! I also just really love this outfit at the moment so it should have some affection, right? I hope you like it too!

I think this outfit sums up a lot of what I’ve been wearing recently. I am obsessed with blouses (I now own six – four long sleeve, two short sleeved) and they’re perfect for this time of the year where we’re not really sure what’s going on. It really messes with your mind because you think “Ooh, it looks lovely and warm and sunny today” and then you walk outside and regret your outfit choice immediately.

That means layering is a go to option, especially with sweatshirts and jumpers, which I also have a growing collection of. I especially love this one which I’ve had for a couple of years now (which you can probably work out due to the very scraggy loose threads around the arms) and it’s still going strong. It works perfectly with every style… grunge, minimalist, khaki seventies etc… it’s a very versatile piece, surprisingly!

In terms of the trousers, well let’s just say…. I AM IN LOVE. They’re very Valentino inspired, and although I don’t usually gravitate towards knock-offs, I absolutely loved these and I couldn’t resist them when they went into the sale. They’re so gorgeous and the style fits like a glove. I can also imagine wearing them on a summer evening so I’m sure they’ll work perfectly throughout the year.

To complete everything, I usually leave my blouse hanging loose for that kind of casual vibe (it also gives me an excuse for skipping out on ironing…). My hat ties in the black from the jumper, where the navy of the trousers clash and my shoes are just doing their usual awesome thing. Honestly, I only wear these and my Dr Martens. You don’t see me in any other shoes at all… no. joke.

Sing For The Wind (Roo Panes) 🎶

To finish off this post, here’s a little sneak peek of what I’ve been listening to recently. I’ve enjoyed adding these little elements to my posts so far this year and I hope you have been too! I love the “Little Giants” album by Roo Panes. Super relaxing but still some nice sing-a-long tunes too. “Because love’s a journey of a lifetime… and where you finish isn’t where you start…”

My Style: Woodland Bohemian Dreaming*

By January 24, 2016 My Style

So let’s start off by saying that this outfit probably seems quite different to the sorts of styles I featured in my aesthetics post… yes, it is quite different but firstly, it’s still rather retro with the seventies bohemian edge, but secondly, currently, this style is sort of the opposite side of the coin. It’s simple, with very little to it, but the print and style of the dress make-up for the lack of texture etc. You’ll see… you’ll see!

WHAT I WORE: Geometric Maxi Dress £13.00 (Spiritual Hippie @ ASOS) // 1B99 Dr Martens 14 Eyelet Boots (Mastershoe-Myshu)* // Ring (Unknown – Mama Posh)

I’d had my eye on this dress for a while, so when it dropped down to a more reasonable price (for a teen), I knew I had to pick it up. As you’ve probably gathered from my previous outfit posts, I’m not really a huge dress wearer, so it’s quite unusual to see me so in awe of one… so this one of those rare occasions for sure!

It’s slightly brighter than on the website, but I don’t mind that because it’s blue, and I wear a lot of blue. Although the print is gorgeous, I can’t get over the fit and loose style. It’s going to be perfect for all year round… I mean, you could 100% pull of this look in summer time… maybe swap out the DMs (unless you’re feeling brave… your feet may boil) for some sandals and take off those cheeky little skin-coloured tights.

It’s a grown-up dress too… because I don’t own many dresses, it’s nice to pick out ones which are slightly more mature and real staples that I know I’ll have in my wardrobe for a long time. Ugh, I just love it. The splits too… I love a nice split!

OOTD My Style Outfit Seventies Bohemian ASOS Dress 1B99 Dr Martens

OOTD My Style Outfit Seventies Bohemian ASOS Dress 1B99 Dr Martens

OOTD My Style Outfit Seventies Bohemian ASOS Dress 1B99 Dr Martens

I can’t talk about anything else than this dress. It’s just not possible…. so I’ll talk about a different aspect just in case you’re interested. Yes, it’s made in India. But actually, this is one of the very few non-ethical/sustainable purchases I’ve made in quite some time. I picked up some trousers from Mötivi which were made in Italy (I was very happy when I found this out), and a jumper from Pull & Bear which was made in Portugal, and most of my other new additions to my wardrobe have either been gifts or second-hand.

I’m pretty chuffed, and as I’ve mentioned in previously, I personally think it’s more about quantity over completely changing your shopping habits. Take small steps, and you’ll get there.

NOW PLAYING: I. flight of the navigator (Childish Gambino) 🎶

Of course I can’t forget to mention these shoes though. I officially have three pairs of Dr Martens in my collection (four if you count the pair that don’t fit me anymore, on my display shelf) and I couldn’t be more happy about this addition. I’ve had my eye on this pair for a while (I tried them on in a shop a while ago and they fit like a glove) as well as the classic cherry red DMs which the Italians seem to love, but I think I’ll wait a little while until adding them.

This pair are the the 1B99’s which have 14 eyelets and hit me about mid calf/mid shin. I was tempted by the knee-high DMs, but surprisingly these are actually a lot higher than just the usual 6/8 eyelet boots. For those of you who stay away from higher boots due to being thin, I really wouldn’t worry about these as although they have a little gap on me (mind you I am super small), they fit perfectly without any problems.

Overall I love them and they match my dress just as I had imagined (I basically bought this dress just to pair them up), and I can’t wait to style them up with shorts in the warmer months. I would 100% recommend them if you’re a Dr Martens fan and are looking to add a different style/shape to your selection.

What do you think of this seventies bohemian inspired outfit? What sorts of things are you wearing at the moment? Leave a comment to let me know!

#MooiEnLiefbyTDP Christmas Gift Guide & GIVE-AWAY

By December 3, 2015 Competitions, General

So Christmas is now right around the corner (22 days people, 22 days!) so I thought it would be a perfect time to share some little gift ideas for those of you who are need that last bit of inspiration in the form of a Christmas gift guide. For some reason I’ve been really struggling this year – why are you so hard to buy for Papa Posh?! 🎅 Each set of gifts are inspired by my collection of socks with Mooi en Lief because I thought it would be quite fun to put together. According to The Telegraph Gift Guide 😉 socks are a great gift idea… Top Of The Pops magazine think so too; you can spot them on the wishlist page on January 20th 2016! Also, scroll on down for a give-away! 🎉

Christmas Gift Guide and Give-Away - Mooi en Lief by Tolly Dolly Posh - ASOS Urban Outfitters

~ HOMO SUPERIOR ~

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8

For the Homo Superior pair of socks, I decided to stick with a very gold based colour palette as the yellow is more of a mustard tone so it works really well. Although the design is pretty fun, it’s also really versatile which means it works well with other prints and more simple items like this super cute Monki beanie from ASOS. The Vagabonds are the ones I wore in the Mooi en Lief by Tolly Dolly Posh lookbook, so if you know any big 70s fans, I’m sure they’ll love a pair of these as a treat (they’re on sale at the mo’ too).

There are also a few miscellaneous items like the Hunky Dory album by David Bowie which is actually one of the inspirations behind this pair of socks (hence the name – Homo Superior – from Oh You Pretty Things), as well as this super cute little Instax frame from Urban Outfitters (I’ve already put this on my own Christmas list!).

~ BLUE BOOTIN ~

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8

I’m not going to lie, this is probably a Tolly gift guide rather than just a general one because… I love every item. I think bold block prints always work well with either a contrasting colour or monochrome… it just seems to compliment these sorts of prints really well. I had to include at least one Skinnydip item in this gift guide as they have so many exciting pieces now… I mean, look at that ZAP bag?!

Speaking of bags, this awesome Dr Martens number is so beautiful. My black backpack has had so much wear already so I can definitely recommend their bags as much as their boots… who wouldn’t want Dr Martens under their tree, though?

I’ve also included some adorable stocking fillers like some holographic stickers, a book for budding photographers and a keyring incase the ZAP bag is a bit too much for your gift receiver.

~ CAMP BLANC ~

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7 // 8 // 9

I think when styling up primary colours, it’s best to stay within the primary colour spectrum, so that’s why for these socks I went with some red and blue pieces that compliment the socks really well. Plus, most people like reds and blues especially when it comes to winter and Christmas, so these gifts might be great options. There are quite a few stocking fillers listed too, if you’re looking for smaller gifts. Belts, hats, scarves, gloves and even socks, are great for simple gifts for friends when you’re really stuck for ideas – even if it does sound boring!

I’ve seen lots of these mittens now, going along with the 70s trend, and they look super cosy! Match them with a beanie and you’re good to go… you could even jazz it up with a matching floral crown (I’ve done this with floppy hats before – it magically transforms your hat!). Also for an extra touch of cosy – mugs and hot chocolate are always a great combo!

Fast Food Fashion: Coca-Cola Float*

By June 12, 2015 My Style

I’m sorry I’ve been quiet for a few days, but it’s actually felt quite good to just let my blog sit for a while. I hope you didn’t miss me too much! 😉 Today I have the penultimate outfit in my mini fast food fashion series. Have you been enjoying it? I hope so! This is all about the drinks… well soft drinks, just to reassure you. I’m talking coke/coca-cola floats and all things yummy. Hmm yeah!

This outfit is super, super simple, but I feel like when styled in the right way, it has a sort of minimalistic aesthetic to it. I received this t-shirt when I won an ASOS voucher over on Hayley’s blog (she’s an awesome beauty blogger if any of you are interested) in collaboration with Diet Coke and I knew it would be perfect for this segment. It’s very oversized but paired with my structured skirt, the bagginess of it is counteracted.

I never really wear simple outfits because I always end up “ruining” (well, not really) them with weird pieces like the accessories I choose. It works in my mind though, it’s a little bit of this and that, mixed and stirred with my usually random personality…!

Talking of the accessories, I went for that New Look milkshake clutch, and I love how it picks out the colours from the rest of the outfit. Again, it’s a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Much like how you would make a coke float actually… a little bit of Coca-Cola and a little bit of ice cream! Hmm, they always remind me so much of the unlimited amounts my family and I would devour on holidays to Greece. Always take advantage of unlimited things!

Finally, let’s talk shoes. You all probably know about my love for these chunky platform Vagabonds, but heck, why not talk about them again? They’re a dream okay. If you like the look of heels but not the idea, get these! So comfy, amazing quality and also… they’re on sale! I paired them with these cheeky socks which are just the cherry on top (see what I did there?!). What d’ya think? 🍼

Fast Food Fashion: The Main Course*

By April 27, 2015 My Style

If you remember last year, I did a blog post all about budget fast food fashion. If you’re not sure what that is exactly then take a look at Moschino AW14′. It’s the collection that started it all off, and ever since so many brands have been taking inspiration. Now, I don’t want to promote unhealthy eating here, but I’ve decided to take that post a step further and make it into a mini series of outfits inspired by each part of the meal; the main, side, drink and dessert. So, as you can probably tell from the title of this post, today is all about the main course… aka. BURGERS! 🍔

When I think red, yellow and green, I also think, blue and white, so I knew immediately that I had to pair all of these different colours together in this exact way. Instead of wearing Moschino rip-offs from eBay, I decided to think about the kind of Parisian girl who hangs out at chic diners and eats burgers with pastel pink milkshake in hand… well almost. I’m not sure McDonalds 🍔 really counts as ‘chic’ but you get the gist.

This Johnnie B top is one of those ‘throw it on and it will look perfect’ tops! Plus, if you’re not wearing dungarees to cover it up, the hem has a beautiful bit of lace detailing to add to the cuteness of it. If you don’t own a stripey top, please go out and get one. They should be a staple of everyone’s wardrobe (…okay if you don’t like stripes, I’ll let you off but they honestly look amazing on anyone)!

This might be weird to say but I actually feel like the simplicity sums up the whole 🍔 “fast food fashion” 🍔 idea; it’s a very simple concept and works will in terms of style and marketing. It shows how all parts of life can influence art and fashion itself. It’s simple, “quirky” and all kinds of awesome. What are your thoughts on the idea?

Also, let’s talks denim. I’m obsessed with it right now. I never used to be so in love with it but again it’s just simple. It has that look of something different; colour but with a touch of texture. But even then it can be turned into texture with a bit of ripping and fraying. It’s a magical fabric and I want to embrace it some more!

The main part of this outfit being fast food inspired is the accessories. These socks were in the original blog post and they worked really well here. I was worried that this necklace from ASOS 🍔 would clash with the colours, but it worked with a bit of help from some fast food badges (I mean, who can resist a 5 items for £3 deal at Claire’s? They came to sixty pence!). Oh and of course that Happy Meal… which unfortunately is now in my stomach. I mean, the gherkin’s healthy right? 😛

DIY Snap On Bracelets | Florals & Pom Poms

By April 15, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

WOW. Today has been one of those days! I was a right wally and decided to make a video for YouTube (for this DIY post) using files on another computer (via the ‘Network’) and I think the WiFi disconnected so I lost all of what I had done. I feel terrible. For some reason me and YouTube just don’t seem to work. I might try and put it together again, so make sure you subscribe just in case but I didn’t have time tonight so it’s just the blog post for you! So sorry, but I hope you enjoy seeing the end result anyway, it was a super fun DIY to make! 😛

snap on bracelets how to tutorial baker rossThis idea originally came from when I was younger and used to catch the bus home from school in the dark… okay, that sounds weird, but my mum used to make me wear these reflective snap on bracelets around my wrists so I was clearly visible, so I was thinking… why don’t I make some funky ones? I scoured the internet for the perfect bracelets and landed upon these pre-covered slap on bracelets from Baker Ross and started work immediately!

It still sounds weird, right? Well they’re actually kinda’ cool. You slap them on which makes them 10x more fun to wear, but they’re super comfortable as well. They fit to most wrist sizes and you can make them into whatever you like. It’s simple, but if you wanted to take it a step further you could cover it with your own fabric, embroidery… whatever you fancy!

WHAT I WORE: Super Crop Top (ASOS) // Jeans (ASOS) // DIY Snap On Bracelets

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Snap On Bracelets (Baker Ross) // Felt Floral Stickers (Baker Ross) // Glitter Pom Poms (Baker Ross) // Hot Glue Gun (Amazon) // Hi Tack Glue (Hobby Craft)

So instead of my YouTube video, I guess I’ll give you a step by step on here! I say step by step, but it’s fairly simple. All you need to do is glue down whatever you’re using to decorate your bracelets, making sure that you’re gluing it to the visible side (otherwise it won’t slap down properly). I used my trusty hot glue gun to secure everything into place afterwards.

For things like pom poms, slap your bracelet on your wrist and make a small mark at the point before your bracelet starts to wrap onto itself. You mustn’t glue anything past this mark otherwise it won’t lay flat. Does that make sense?!

I am honestly so sorry that there was no video with this! I feel so bad about it. I hope you got the jist of it anyway! I will promise to do more DIYs soon, it’s actually surprisingly difficult to document what you do as you go along, so I’ll try my best! I hope you have a lovely rest of your evening and don’t forget to let me know if you give this a try!
