Confidence & Courage

By January 6, 2013 DIY & Lifestyle, Fashion

Recently, I was chatting with a twitter tweep, and we got to the discussion of confidence in what you wear. They said that they had died their hair bright blue, and then changed it back to brown again, because they stuck out like a sore thumb. I could understand where they were coming from, with the whole ‘Look at me, I’m different’ thing. I sometimes think to myself, ‘but, people are going to look at me’. When I visit the local supermarket, I am certain I get strange looks. I think it’s probably because I always wear my hat inside, well, it is cold! It does give me that feeling of insecurity, but then my dad does the cheesy thing of saying ‘They do it because you’re pretty’, well, okay, thanks dad, but I don’t want to sound vain here. Anyway, this post is all about building confidence. I feel since starting my blog, I have definitely felt more confident in what I wear, as it’s out in the open. So, I have created a guide, to building your confidence and your building up your courage, in whichever way possible…

confidence1Starting a blog can be quite hard, because if you get good amounts of views, you may have to start doing it every day. BUT! I have a solution! If you start a online diary (a public diary), it can be about anything, so you start to express your opinions which can help you. A blog is different because you’re doing it to a specific subject, and you kind of have to commit to it. With this, because it’s about anything and everything, there’s not much commitment at all! Because, people aren’t relying on you. Here are some examples…

Picture 3The Public Diary

I really like this one. It has things that are really quite unusual, like a day out of a bus window etc, so if you want inspiration, there’s a gooden!

Picture 2Terry’s Diary

ย This is what I mean by anything and everything. It literally is. Random pictures, random everything! It is very basic, and I guess anyone could do this!

confidence2I’ve never personally been to a Meet & Greet but I know that many YouTubers hold them. Now, you may be thinking why would that help me, but it would for these reasons… 1. You will meet lots of different people, and personalities, which will show you that you can be whoever you like. 2. You may get some inspiration from it, and you might end up being even better than the YouTuber you met! 3. You will learn a lot because you’ll begin to talk to people, and you might meet people who wear things totally random, and you might catch on, and that could boost you!

confidence3Even if you don’t get into Fashion Week, just get to the place around it! Have a nice day out, and take some pictures of people. It can tell you that if you have a love for fashion, then you should be able to wear what ever you want to wear! I’ve been to Clothes Show Live, and even there loads of people wore mad things, I hadn’t started blogging yet, but it gave me some inspiration.

confidence4GO OUT! Wear what you feel like you should be wearing! Go to big cities like London, Paris, Birmingham, New York, you’re sure to get spotted, for the right reasons! I remember when I first went out wearing these sunglasses that I thought were OTT and ridiculous, I came back and I people had said that they liked them! Woop!

Now, I know this wasn’t all fashion related, but sometimes we just need that inspiration don’t we? Just sometimes? Oh! And before you finish reading!! The Give-Away starts tomorrow! Woop! It’s to say thank you for the recent amazing views, and Twitter boom. Thank you so much! Here’s what you could win…

PRITCH London

By January 5, 2013 Fashion

PRITCH London is a new brand which mixes ‘rock harmony and classic chic’. I was told to go and check PRITCH out, and I actually quite like it! They are just coming along, so they need to get out there! You can see on their site that there are a few quick snippets of their collections, and also some nice pictures as well ๐Ÿ™‚ They haven’t yet released their stockists, so you better be ready, because I think they’re gonna be big!

I think these pictures are really strong, and capture the brand perfectly. Plus, I just really like cool photography like this! ๐Ÿ™‚

Vintage Fashion: 40s & 50s

By January 4, 2013 Fashion

PART 1 – At the moment I have a major obsession with Vintage Fashion. It’s partly because I watched Restless on BBC and I loved the whole look of the film. (You can see the post I did on that here.) But, it’s also because I watched Dark Shadows once again, last night, and found that I enjoyed the look of that too. I also really want to become obsessed with a TV Series because I feel I need to have something to look forward too in this time of boredom. (Yes, I still haven’t found a school, but we will do soon!) So, here’s a few pictures and things that I think are cool, and perhaps you will find inspiration from them too…

obsessions1and2

I think this picture kind of sums up the 40s style, because it shows the elegance that the women still had during the war, it also shows the simplicity during the time, because of lack of materials, and also the cost. I also love the Faux Fur hem, which is also quite in trend at the moment ๐Ÿ˜‰

Obviously this picture is in style of the era, but I think it shows the people of this modern society that you can work the look in a nice classy way, without looking to Vintage. So, I decided to create an outfit, in style of this picture… but with a modern twist!

Longsleeve White Shirt ยฃ22.00 (Topshop), Cotton Rich Knee Length Pencil Skirt ยฃ25.00 (M&S), Yellow Neon Strap High Heel Sandals ยฃ70.00 (River Island), Front Row Society ‘Keep Flowing’ Cotton & Silk Scarf ยฃ24.91 (Nord Storm), Miso T Bar Leather Gloves ยฃ8.00 (Republic) & Red and Black Colour Block Envelope Clutch ยฃ15.99 (New Look)

Like I wrote on the image, adding touches of neon adds that modern feel to the outfit. Also, add tones of light blues for a more vintage look as well. This skirt may not be the exact same feel, but it has the right colour to match.

Be sure to watch out for Part 2, where I will be doing some outfits on the 50s & 60s… including, Audrey Hepburn & Marilyn Monroe! *Oooh*

Menswear: Jules

By January 2, 2013 Fashion

Today, I was out and about in a near city (Albi), and my sister’s boyfriend needed a jumper, so we looked at a few shops, and found Jules. Now, this shop isn’t exactly amazingly different, but we all found it rather trendy for men looking for some smart, new clothes, at quite a reasonable price. So, here’s a quick look at the new collection for 2013 ๐Ÿ™‚ Plus, some of my favourite men’s pieces…

Colour Block Jumper โ‚ฌ35.99, Button Jacket Cardigan โ‚ฌ49.95 & Fantasy Jumper โ‚ฌ29.99.

I think my favourite is the Colour Block Jumper, I think it’s going to be very big this upcoming season, so guys, get thinking about that! But, I also love the Button Jacket Cardigan because you can make it work in loads of different ways, like, by adding a scarf, or a nice blue shirt, for a casual look and more smart look.

Chino โ‚ฌ44.95, Slim Trousers โ‚ฌ49.95 & Straight Jean โ‚ฌ49.99.

My favourite pair of trousers, is probably the ones in the middle. They have sort of a metallicy shine to them, and they can also be used in a casual way or a smart way. Wear boots for a casual look, and nice work shoes for a smarter look.

I really like this trend, but a lot of the brands who are selling these cute jumpers, are quite expensive, so you will definitely be seeing a few DIYs this year. (2013! YAY!)

By December 31, 2012 Fashion

This upcoming year brings some trends which we may have not seen before, so I am here to keep you up to date! So here’s the first one: Daisies.

This trend is really easy to work, either go big with it with your accessories, or go big with a nice flirty dress ๐Ÿ™‚ The above Prada look is really modern, but I guess you could play it the Vintage way, with a cute playsuit ๐Ÿ™‚

Get The Look: Restless

By December 30, 2012 Beauty, Fashion

If you haven’t seen it all ready, the 2 part film ‘Restless’ from BBC is a must see for you vintage modern films, i.e people like me ๐Ÿ™‚ So, I decided to create a post dedicated to the brilliant spy film. So here you go… two outfits and a make-up look… (Images from BBC & Cathal MacIlwayne)

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice ยฃ5.00 (Boots)Surreal Skin Mineral Foundation Urban Decay in Hallucination ยฃ5.25 (Amazon)Illamasqua Concealer in 200 ยฃ13.00 (Illamasqua) & Eye Pencil in Ebony ยฃ13.50 (MAC).

The look in the film was very basic, but the lips were perfect. The eyeliner was also very thin, but you could definitely tell there was something there. The hair in the image above is inspired by Kerry Washington, and it only needs a curling wand and a few bobby pins!

Long Sleeve Fit & Flare Dress ยฃ35.00 (Oasis), Cream Cat Eye Sunglasses ยฃ10.00 (River Island), Metal Tip Satchel ยฃ28.00 (ASOS), PRIOR Pointed High Heels ยฃ45.00 (ASOS) & Babyliss Curling Wand ยฃ19.99 (Superdrug).

This look is really simple to create, and it doesn’t need to much thinking. All you need to do is get the right shapes. The dress needs to be flared, or slightly flowing. The shoes need to be simple, but with a touch of elegance, and the bag needs to either be tiny, or a satchel.

Marsha Dress by Goldie ยฃ58.00, July Peep Toe Mid Shoes ยฃ48.00, Clean Zip Leather Purse ยฃ20.00 & Roller Bowler Hat ยฃ26.00 (All from Topshop).

This look is also so easy to create. Simple things like the neckline of the dress you wear, make such a difference in creating that Vintage Vibe. I think Topshop is a great place to create this look because they have Vintage looking things, but they also have a modern touch on them too.

Okay, a lot of you have probably already seen this, but I just had to add it because I LOVE IT! I love Scarlett Johansson, and I will do a CSC on her soon (hopefully!), and I love her even more in this… (Pictures from ELLE/Rankin)

Rankin has really captured the youth and character of S/S 13 and Scarlett. 2 in 1! I think I may even do an CSC so, watch out! How I would die to have her hair, and her style, and her smile ๐Ÿ™‚
