5 Years of Tolly Dolly Posh | How My Blog Can Help You

By March 29, 2017 General

Whew boy, I can’t believe that I have officially been writing my blog for half a decade! Blogging is a weird and wonderful word and over the past few years I have definitely realised how many blogs and websites there are out there now but I couldn’t be more chuffed with how my very own is turning out. On previous “blog birthdays” or “blogiversaries”, I’ve answered questions about how I blog but this time I wanted to get some of my frequent readers and commenters involved and see how it’s been to read my work and join in with Tolly Dolly Posh along the way. Hell yeah, I’m not only championing my hard work (because yes, it’s been challenging), I’m championing you too!

🎉 HAPPY 5th BLOG BIRTHDAY TOLLY DOLLY POSH 🎉

Without trying to big myself up, I wanted to ask some of you who frequently interact with my content why you read my blog and how it’s helped you over the past few years, months, weeks or days you’ve been reading it! It’s a slightly more personal version of one of my previous reader surveys. Hopefully, it will make things a little clearer for new readers and will also celebrate the community which has been created ever since I started writing because obviously, I probably would have stopped or at least pulled back a little if it wasn’t for your continuous support. I may be a small fish in a big sea but it’s definitely a good sea to be in…

When did you start reading my blog?

About three years ago. I had read about you in a magazine, I’m not sure which one.

Edie

I am not exactly sure. I found you through another blogger probably saying how awesome you are. I think a little over a year ago.

How has my blog inspired you?

In a blogosphere (beauty & fashion specifically) full of shallow, predictable content heavily focused on trends and full of bloggers who are so desperate to please brands that they’ve maybe lost their way a bit, it’s refreshing to see you doing things your own way since the start.

I’ve always cared about ethical shopping and natural products, but it wasn’t until you switched to being more focused on ethical fashion that I really started doing my research and changing my habits. It’s also super inspiring to see someone so young have such a passion for something so important to making our world better, people like you give me hope that things will get better in the future.

Jayne

I would say it’s helped me learn more about ethical fashion and how it can really easily tailor to your style; in no way does ethical fashion have to be drab.

Eleanor

You have inspired me to wear what I want and only what I want. If I feel confident and badass in something, I’m going to wear it, even if my parents say I look like a clown! Posts like ‘How To Soothe A Sore Thumb‘ have massively increased my confidence, and changed my mindset. They taught me that life’s too short to conform, and that’s a priceless lesson!

Has my blog helped you become a conscious consumer?

I have never been the best buyer of clothes since I love shopping but reading some of the newer posts by you has helped me to realise that not every piece of clothing is created equally. I have also learned that having maybe fewer clothes isn’t a bad thing and how to really have less.

Nabila

You’re the reason I’m so aware of ethical fashion! That’s now the main focus of my own blog, and I’m doing presentations in my school about it. I feel extremely passionate about the subject, and I would now class myself as a conscious consumer now. Yay!

Edie

The ethical book reviews on your blog have really helped me to further my knowledge and make educated choices about the clothes I buy. The ethical directory you have on your blog is a fantastic way to easily access ethical brands and have helped me find some brands that I’m absolutely in love with!

Eleanor

I’ve got a long book list from reading your blog and have already watched some eye-opening documentaries off the back of your recommendations and that’s the best first steps anyone could ask for. I’ve actively stopped shopping with brands that I know are problematic like H&M, Topshop and Primark and am now spending more time learning how to sew so I can make as much of my own stuff as possible going forward.

What would you like to see more of?

On the blog I would love to see more feminist posts as I loved the one on feminist shirts. I would also love to see more posts asking and answering questions to things that are being talked about or are popular questions.

Nabila

I would say posts that expand on the brands mentioned in your ethical directory so perhaps more information on a few of your favourite brands with your favourite pieces from the brand (like a wish list for the company).

Eleanor

Whatever captures your heart and inspires you. Always write for passion. Your blog is special because you can tell that you really care about the subject and have gone to a lot of effort to do the research and put it together in a way that is accessible to a wide range of people. I’d love to see more bloggers taking a page from your book and going back to the specific thing that they are passionate about, the trigger that got them writing in the first place.

Jayne

Receiving these responses really solidified how happy and proud I am of the work I’m doing right now. I think I’ve definitely found my feet even if it’s taken me five whole years to get here. Of course I’m always looking to improve and make things even more accessible and enjoyable for you, the readers, so please feel free to send over your own responses! Let me know in the comments what you’d like to see and perhaps I can make it happen!

For now though, once again, thank you so much for reading and giving me such incredible opportunities over these past few years. I suppose we should say ‘here’s to another five’ but perhaps this site will be a platform for something even greater by then. Take a look back at some of my favourite posts in the meantime and keep updated by following me on Twitter, FacebookInstagram and all those magical places.

THANK YOU! 👊

2 Years of Blogging | Why Do I Blog?

By March 29, 2014 My Style

Today is a very special day because this space of internet, more commonly known as Tolly Dolly Posh Fashion, is celebrating it’s 2nd birthday (and it’s 520th post!) Yes, 730 days have past since I set up my little blog, so I thought I would answer that 1 important question… Why Do I Blog?

Happy Birthday TDPStripey Top (Saint James), Tie Dye Jumpsuit (Matalan), Necklace (Chelsea Doll)*, Aztec Headband (DIY) & Frame (IKEA)

When I started writing this blog I didn’t really have a set path that I wanted it to lead. I didn’t really want to get into magazines or speak on the radio… to be honest I didn’t even know that was possible just for ‘writing a blog’. I had the domain for my site, but I didn’t necessarily have the vision of what it would become… so why? I was 11 when I started it, and I did actually have previous blog experience, with my old Tumblr account where I would post celebrity get the look posts, and then my attempt on Blogger called ‘Tolly Dolly Posh’s Universe’, oh and don’t forget that Wix site which had a nodding pug in the corner of each page (yes, I really had that)! Anyway, I’ve always wanted to do something in fashion because of my mum, who if you don’t know worked for Mulberry before even my sister was born, which means I have always had the influence of art and fashion in my life. I thought well, why not start a site where I can share my love for it? Seems like a logical idea, non?

Well, that’s what I did, and you can go back if you like and see how terrible my posts were, with my Instagram outfit posts… looking back I am surprised that Victoria White from Company Magazine even wanted to leave a comment on my mini Nail Rock review… (thank you though 😉 ) That’s not really why I actually do it though, well now anyway. I still really hope my blog gets me closer to my goal, which is to work in fashion, but I feel like I have really found the reason I still spend a good hour editing pictures and waiting for my slow HP notebook to even load one image from my camera, and why I have over 600 emails in my ‘BLOGGING STUFF’ folder (it’s in capitals so I thought I would say the exact truth). The reason is because I love getting feedback. It sounds odd, but it really is a magical feeling when you get something back from what you do.

happy birthday tdp2My sister surprised me and my brother with her iPad as an early b-day prezzie. Wiped clean, just like new! Eee!

I enjoy when people say ‘Those pictures look awesome’ or ‘Great post’. Even a favourite of a tweet on Twitter makes me smile. I don’t get many comments, or thousands of views a day, but just one makes it all seem worthwhile. At the beginning it was mainly my family and a few friends from school acknowledging my blog, then I hit a point where I had followers… I had people enjoying what I posted. The numbers aren’t the reason, do understand that. I absolutely push the idea of blogging being more about the fun of it all! I just love the feeling of the bit by each post changing from ‘Leave A Comment’ to ‘1 comment’.

Something made me question why I blog, which is the whole ‘free stuff’ dilemma. Yes, I do get sent things, and it is a very nice cherry on the top, being recognised by brands etc, but I now know that’s not the reason. You could strip all of that away, and I would be tip top! I am only happy if I have that one view, and that one comment. It’s like on Twitter, if I had 5 followers, I would rather have the most interactive people, or people like Susie Bubble or Zoe from Zoe London (formerly London Lipgloss – thanks to both of them for being awesome!) who I genuinely look up to in the blogging world, than 5 people who couldn’t care less. The other day Susie actually quoted something from my About page on Twitter and I actually couldn’t believe it – the quote is below! Little old me being acknowledged by somebody like her?! I am so lucky to have such nice followers and readers, and there aren’t many of you, so you know that I don’t do it for the numbers. I do it for the feedback, and the interaction. That’s why I blog!

happy birthday tdp3As I said, it’s been 2 full years since I started up this blog! I believe I actually published my first post on the 31st of March, but the site was born 730 days ago… 😉 Since then, I have grown 2 years on me, I have achieved stuff that I literally cannot believe I have done, and I have changed a whole heck of a lot! Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere soon, but I feel like 2014 is going to be the year for even more change *cough* new blog design *cough*, and for really developing my skills. I hope it is as successful as last year, and that you stick with me for another one!

This post was inspired by the gorgeous Plum, so definitely go and check her’s out here! Lots of Love… Tolly Dolly Posh xx

Happy Birthday TDPFashion!

By March 29, 2013 Competitions, DIY & Lifestyle, Fashion, My Style

On March 29th 2012, exactly one year ago, the very first post of the Tolly Dolly Posh Fashion blog was published. It is now March 29th 2013, and I am proud to say, I have been blogging for one whole year. If you don’t want to read this post, don’t, because it is going to be filled with hundreds of Thank Yous, and lots of memories, so you are free to keep on scrolling down the page… (GIF via Tumblr)

cakeMy dream is to become a Fashion Designer as you know, and that is one of the reasons I started this blog. I don’t want it to be the only reason though, I don’t want it to be how I get ‘famous’. My plan in life is not to be famous, but to just be somewhere I am happy, and somewhere I am proud of myself. But, the blog has been the start of that, it’s the little seed that hopefully one day, will grow into a colourful flower, just like me. I’m only starting out my life too, I’m 12 years old, and I have still got an awful lot to learn. Again, my age isn’t something I want people to read my blog for. I want people to read it because they enjoy reading it. I want them to ignore my age whilst reading it, and then afterwards remember, that I am only 12. I hope that if you are a daily/weekly/monthly/yearly reader, that you do enjoy reading my blog, and seeing what I have accomplished in 1 year, I think, perhaps, just maybe, you might? So here’s the soppy, thank you part.

I don’t want to boast, this is about sharing the successes which you have made possible for me. Okay, okay, I have made some of it possible myself (I do write the blog, you know?!), but the only reason I can get recognised is because of all of you support me, and believe that I can reach my dreams. My first big achievement was being My Celebrity Fashion’s Blogger of The Week, which was awesome! Thank You to all the team at MCF! The next one was being on Superstar Fashion Network which has over 44,000 likes on Facebook, Thank You! I have also been on Wantering as a Trendsetter which was so amazing, as I had over 130 re-blogs on their blog which was mind boggling! Thank You!! I was also nominated for a MADs Blog Award for 2013, which was amazing! (Good Luck to the finalists!) As you know March 16th for me was another amazing day! I was featured in The Telegraph Magazine that was literally insane. I cannot thank Jessica Salter who wrote the article, enough. Thank You!! Then, to have woken up last Saturday morning, to receive an email saying BBC Radio 4 would like me to speak on the ‘iPM‘ show, just made my life even more complete! WOWZA! (Click the player above to listen!) And! In even more recent news (yesterday), I tweeted an illustration of David Bowie, and it was RTed & Instagrammed by Iman (David Bowie’s Wife) who is a Fashion Designer! Thanks Iman! In a couple of weeks time I have a pretty exciting thing happening too, which you may already know about… Yes, Tolly Dolly Posh is going to be featured in Mizz Magazine! In the very next issue (the exact date will be revealed soon), you will find my face! You may not be a teen, but I used to read this magazine (when I was in the UK), and my sister used to when she was my age too, so it really is awesome!
So far in ways of stats and followers, my PB for stats is 530 which isn’t much for some bloggers, but I literally do not care, that is amazing! I have built up over 920 Followers across Facebook, Twitter, BlogLovin’ HelloCotton, and GFC. Again, I seriously just want you to know, I don’t want to boast. I am just telling you that you have supported me so much through all of these amazing achievements.

photoUnfortunately, due to the fact that I am 12 and don’t have the biggest of budgets, I couldn’t do a massive give-away, but there has been one on! It’s a little thank you for supporting me and my blog as we go on our little journey! Congratulations to the winner!
