How To Soothe A Sore Thumb – Kinda’

By August 18, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

(For those of you who have actually come here to find out how to soothe a sore thumb, you may want to walk away because I’m not actually going to be telling you how. I’d head to WikiHow for that… but if you’re here for self-confidence boosting material, definitely keep your tab open!)

How To Soothe A Sore Thumb~ 👍 = you ~

No matter how red and glowing your sore thumb might seem, there is no way to hide the redness. I’ve tried multiple theories, from staring directly back at people, joining in with their laughing and just casually dying inside, but do you know what? Nothing works. Nothing soothes my sore thumb because there is no miracle cure. There is no spell or potion that can get rid of what ever is making your thumb look red, because it’s not you, your thumb, your hand, or body… it’s other people. It’s them.

I’ve had whole families stop their conversations, turn around and watch me walk past them like I have a giant sign above my head saying, “LOOK AT ME, I’M A BIG FAT SORE THUMB!”. I’ve sat opposite a table of young girls, who have laughed at me and pointed when I’ve obviously stared back. I’ve been walking down a road whilst a lady slows down, turns her head and stares… just an arm’s width distance from me. All because I’m not wearing what most people wear… or look a certain way compare to everyone else..!

It might feel like your thumb is throbbing and glowing bright red, but really, it’s just because they’re seeing something that they’ve never seen before, and in a weird way, that’s pretty cool! Don’t ever go changing who you are because other people see that sign above your head.

One way to help relieve the pressure is to flaunt the thumb you’ve got! You have to realise that it’s their problem that they think you’re “soooo funny” to laugh at. They’re more funny for thinking that you’re an odd-one-out! You have to realise that it’s their problem that they can’t handle seeing something unique, that it makes them stop and stare. Deal with it! In fact, embrace the attention because who doesn’t want people looking at them with intrigue?

The more you flaunt it, the more people will catch on to your awesomeness, which means in the end, more people will be flaunting their awesomeness, so nobody will have to feel like a sore thumb ever again.

How to soothe a sore thumb? Well, you can’t.

If you think you “stick out like a sore thumb” did this make any sense? Let me know in the comments and we can all get rid of the “sore thumb” label together!

Making 10 Year Old Tolly’s Ideas Come To Life…

By June 20, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

“Dear my little earthlings,” was how I used to introduce my posts on my old Tumblr blog when I was 10… yup, most of you won’t know but I was still blogging back then. I used to write super short and simple posts to an audience of around…. 0? So, when I was recently sorting through some of my old bits and bobs, I discovered an old Tumblr/blogging notebook which was pretty much half empty. What was in that notebook you ask?

Tolly Dolly Posh Digital Club Card Mock-up Photoshop

In my super duper, pretty much empty notebook I found a few odd (and pretty darn awful) sketchy drawings of ideas for my future as “TDP”. Back then (LOL, I’m talking about it as if it’s been twenty years) I had more of a vision of being this sort of cool, hip, high street store so the ideas I had were really based around that kinda’ thing. I drew a scribble of a cash register (with even descriptions of what some of the buttons meant) and some ideas for the price tags for both men’s and women’s clothes.

So, I was like… It’s been over five years since I created them, so why not make my “10 year old TDP” ideas come to life? So I did! I fiddled around on Photoshop, tweaked the Bevel & Emboss settings and added all the right components for a… Tolly Dolly Posh Club card! Yeah that’s right, a points card… 💳

Tolly Dolly Posh Digital Club Card Mock-up Photoshop

After fiddling around for a while, I came up with the design above. It looks a lot different from the original drawing (below), but what I do like is the fact that I was using purple back then… and purple is one of my main branding colours now. Anyway, what do you think? I’m actually really chuffed with how it came out. I did try to make the price tags but the original design was so bad that it just didn’t look right at all. But, I think 10 year old Tolly would be impressed… if I do say so myself…!

Tolly Dolly Posh Digital Club Card Mock-up Photoshop

So, don’t go throwing away those silly little notebooks full (or well, half empty) of scribbles and future ideas. Keep them not only to reflect on how your skills have developed, but to remind you of where you’ve come from for when things start changing or moving in the future. I’m glad that I looked back on these funny ideas I had and made them come to life. Maybe one day they’ll be a real thing?! Who knows? I guess that’s the cool thing about blogging… it’s a place where all your memories and thoughts can be stored forever, in the form of a creative hobby.

💳 What do you think of my Tolly Dolly Posh Club card mock-up? Have you ever taken something from the past and made it come to life again? Let me know in the comments! 💳

15 People Who Inspire Me To Be Myself

By May 21, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

If you didn’t see on my social media, then you won’t know that this week I’m going to do a few posts which are lists of 15, to of course, celebrate my birthday! Woop! So, I thought I would write up a list of people who inspire me. I know the title suggests that they inspire me to be me, but alongside that, some of these awesome people inspire me to be creative too. I seemed to get asked the question of who inspires me a lot, so here’s a full list! In no particular order…

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

1. Helena Lester-Card – Blogger & Vintage Seller – Sassy World

Helena is a fashion blogger who just rocks. her. stuff! As well as running an absolutely killer vintage fashion shop (Sassy World), she also has her own personal style blog which is the most colourful thing I have ever seen. She inspires me to be myself whatever the weather!

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

2. Everyone in The Confetti Crowd – Bloggers

I’m sort of cheating here but Helena is also in “The Confetti Crowd” which is a group of 5 kick-ass fashion bloggers with the most crazy and eclectic styles. I’m obsessed with their stuff and they have an awesome message to spread!

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

 3. Paul Smith – Fashion Designer

Okay, so quite a big one here, but Paul Smith has always intrigued me. I find how he puts so much detail and intricacy into everything he does very inspiring. I think he shows us all that even when success hits, you don’t have to lose yourself in it all!

4. Laura Whalebone – Blogger – That’s So Yesterday

Laura is another fashion blogger (and mum) who’s style has yet to fade, and I’d hope it never does! Every outfit she posts inspires me to never stop being myself, which is rather simple but it’s also really awesome. Laura breaks all the “rules” and I love that!

5. Everyone on Humans of New York – Facebook Page

This kinda’ sounds weird, but when I check in on Facebook and there’s an inspiring story or some uber cool person posing on my screen, I instantly feel inspired to just carry on being me and do what I love. If there is one Facebook page you should follow, please make it HONY!

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

6. Katie Oldham – Blogger – Scarphelia

Another blogger but I don’t care! Katie is one of those people who just always has something amazing about to come out of her… fingertips? She’s another person who can just post anything and make me feel inspired. She also follows me on Twitter and her support is unreal.

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

7. Zoe Hellewell – Blogger – Zoe London

Oh dear, another blogger… but I’m a blogger myself so I have to mention some right? You’ve probably all heard of Zoe and her bright blue hair! She’s down right awesome. She’s a blogger who works her socks off and deserves all the success she has. She inspires not only me but all of her readers to be themselves because nobody else is better…. well, in a nice way!

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

8. Maria Grazia Chiuriand and Pier Paolo Piccioli – Creative Directors – Valentino

Fairly recently, Valentino as a fashion house has really intrigued me so I’m going to put down Maria & Pier for similar reasons to Paul Smith. Valentino is such an interesting brand and all of their recent collections have been so beautiful.

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

9. Susanna Lau – Fashion Blogger – Style Bubble

Everytime I go to my wardrobe, I genuinely ask myself “What would Susie wear?”… I know I love wearing what I want, and I promote that through and through but Susie has the most awesome wardrobe and I will always be inspired. PLUS, she is an incredible writer. Truly brilliant.

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

10. Cara Delevingne – Model & Actress

You might be surprised by this one! The only real ‘celebrity’ on the list and she’s actually a model. I don’t need to explain who she is but I just find that her out-going and care free way of doing things is pretty darn cool. Can I be her?

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

11. ASOS – Fashion Brand

Not technically a ‘person’ but ASOS do inspire me! They seem to have everything put together in just the right way. They’re the most awesome fashion brand there is right now. They cater for all budgets, styles etc. Can I be… ASOS too?

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

12. Frédérique Tietcheu – Fashion Blogger & Confidence Coach – SHE Unleashed

Freddie isn’t just another blogger, she’s also a confidence coach and I can see why. Freddie just expresses being yourself through out everything she does. Plus her style is uber cool too… and that hair? WOW.

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

13. Ashish Gupta – Fashion Designer – ASHISH

A fashion designer who has just done it all in such an awesome way. The “King of Sequins” who has the most epic runway shows ever. I love what ASHISH has to say as a brand, especially more recently with their choice of models… we need more of this!

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

14. My Family

Soppy soppy, get those tissues out, yeah? Haha! I had to mention them though. Ever since I started my blog they have supported me all the way and they just let me be me. I couldn’t ask for anything more. That’s my sister and nephew on the left, and my mum, sister and I all wearing stripes on the right!

15 People Who Inspire Me - Paul Smith Valentino ASHISH(via Instagram)

15. YOU – Followers on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, BlogLovin and YouTube

Don’t put away those tissues just yet because I need to put you in here too! Yes, YOU! Anyone who reads my blog inspires me because they support me. You guys never (really) have anything bad to say and you just embrace what I do and I love that! Thank you, like seriously… thank you! Those two pictures were taken by a school in Texas… yes, that is me on the big screen!

15 Birthday Wishes From Me To You

By May 19, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

Today is my 15th birthday! 🎉 Yes little me is half way to thirty, crazy right? I was thinking quite hard for what to write for today, and then an idea came to me. Because you guys follow this blog and give it so much love, I want my birthday wishes to be for you. So here are my 15th birthday wishes, which I need you to make come true!

15th Birthday Wishes - 15 Year Old Fashion Blogger(I haven’t dyed my hair… just in case you couldn’t tell, this is a bit of funky editing because I couldn’t find any other pictures!)

1. I wish that you realised you are beautiful just the way you are 😍

One of my biggest dreams is for people to realise that being themselves is the most perfect thing in the world. If I can inspire just one person to do that thing for them, or dress the way they want to dress, that would be the biggest wish come true.

2. I wish that nobody was labelled for being like this or that 👐

This wish and the next are quite connected. I just wish people weren’t judged for what they are. 99.9% of people are who they are because that’s just how life works. No-body is perfect and if we all accept that, then everyone will be perfect.

3. I wish that people understood that skinny shaming is also a “thing” ☝

I don’t care how many people say that “skinny people are lucky”, I will always say that skinny shaming is just as big as an issue as saying to someone their fat. I’ve written about my own experiences with this before, and Zoe (Zoe London) recently commented on it too. Please read both pieces.

4. I wish that people would think before they type 💻

Some people online still don’t realise that even if you don’t show your face, nasty words and comments, still hurt. I don’t deal with this personally but I know so many people do. In real life too… words. hurt.

5. I wish that everyone realised that comparison is the thief of joy 👭

In my 14th birthday blog post I put down this phrase as one of the 14 things I’ve learnt in 14 years, and it’s still in my mind. I’ve learnt since then that comparing people is just ridiculous because everyone has a completely different life and story, in every shape or form.

15th Birthday Wishes - 15 Year Old Fashion Blogger(Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind!)

6. I wish my favourite quote would be everyone else’s favourite quote too 🐱

Because even if The Cat In A Hat made it up (*cough* Dr Seuss *cough*), it’s something very special!

7. I wish that you would all go and support Fashion Revolution 👗

It’s a simple task; go support the campaign.

8. I wish that people would share the love more often 😘

I think this is truly important; not only because it’s just a kind thing to do, but because I believe what goes around, comes around.

9. I wish that the small things would seem beautiful to everyone 🌺

Life isn’t about great big, materialistic things. It’s about all the little details that are magical in their own unique way.

10. I wish hopes and dreams didn’t get crushed by one person saying “You can’t.” 🌞

Because YOU CAN.

15th Birthday Wishes - 15 Year Old Fashion Blogger

11. I wish that you will do one thing today that is out of your comfort zone 👍

Whether you wear something you never thought you’d wear, or you tell someone something you’d never usually say. Do something to make yourself feel proud!

12. I wish that everyone would be creative 🎨

It sounds weird, but we all have the capability. If you create something, then you’re creative. Give it a go, go and make something magical!

13. I wish that you could tell me how my blog helps you ❔

It might not, but it’s worth a try? Leave me a comment and tell me why (ooh, that ryhmes)!

14. I wish that in 15 years you’re wearing a piece of my clothing 🎽

A wish for me and for you. I hope that you’re wearing something that I’ve created and that you feel good in it. Make a mental note for 2030, yeah?

15. I wish that you make at least one of these things come true 💃

Simple.

Customised DIY Iron-on Patch Jacket with Jennie Maizels*

By May 10, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

A new DIY! Ooooh yeah! I know my DIYs have been fairly simple so far, but because my bank balance is that of a teen, it means that you may just have to deal with simple but super customisable DIYs for now. But, like I said, they’re super customisable. I discovered the awesomeness which is Jennie Maizels recently, so I wanted to share with you a little DIY on how to create an awesome jacket with her adorable iron-on patches. Let’s GO!

DIY Iron-on Patch Jacket & Dip Dye - Jennie Maizels - DYLON Dyes

WHAT YOU NEED: Iron-on Patches (Jennie Maizels)* // Jacket (Jumble Sale) // Tea Towel // Iron // Ironing Board

STEP 1:

Take your super adorable iron-on patches and decide what you want to do with them. I decided I wanted my name on the back, and a few extras on the front. I used a white jacket that I dip-dyed (more on that later) and I think it was a perfect canvas for the patches. The backs of jackets are a great place to start especially for names!

STEP 2 & 3:

The next thing you need to do is layout exactly where you want iron each patch. I re-did this after every patch I ironed down, so I knew exactly where things were going. After you’ve put down your first patch, cover it with a cloth (a tea towel works great) and follow these instructions…

Constantly wiggle your iron on top of the tea towel and patch for 20-30 seconds; then repeat on the reverse side too! You can also remove the tea towel and apply direct heat if it needs a little bit of help.

STEP 4:

Repeat the same process anywhere else on the jacket. I chose to go with a “LOVE” patch above a faux-pocket and 2 kitsch flamingos on the collars (I love them).

VOILA!

Your super cute and customisable jacket is finished! I love the outcome and the patches were super easy to use. I really do think Jennie Maizel’s patches are the best in terms of design. I can’t find any letters like hers… SO COOL! Now let’s style it up…

I absolutely love the outcome! I never really used to wear this jacket, but now not only have I discovered it works great as a fitted “jacket top”, I am also in love with my customised tweaks. It’s totally me and could be styled in so many ways. I love how it looks with my new denim skirt (£1 from a jumble sale, uh thank you very much!) too. Ahh I love it! Do you love it too? Let me know in the comments!

DIY Snap On Bracelets | Florals & Pom Poms

By April 15, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

WOW. Today has been one of those days! I was a right wally and decided to make a video for YouTube (for this DIY post) using files on another computer (via the ‘Network’) and I think the WiFi disconnected so I lost all of what I had done. I feel terrible. For some reason me and YouTube just don’t seem to work. I might try and put it together again, so make sure you subscribe just in case but I didn’t have time tonight so it’s just the blog post for you! So sorry, but I hope you enjoy seeing the end result anyway, it was a super fun DIY to make! 😛

snap on bracelets how to tutorial baker ross

snap on bracelets how to tutorial baker ross

snap on bracelets how to tutorial baker rossThis idea originally came from when I was younger and used to catch the bus home from school in the dark… okay, that sounds weird, but my mum used to make me wear these reflective snap on bracelets around my wrists so I was clearly visible, so I was thinking… why don’t I make some funky ones? I scoured the internet for the perfect bracelets and landed upon these pre-covered slap on bracelets from Baker Ross and started work immediately!

It still sounds weird, right? Well they’re actually kinda’ cool. You slap them on which makes them 10x more fun to wear, but they’re super comfortable as well. They fit to most wrist sizes and you can make them into whatever you like. It’s simple, but if you wanted to take it a step further you could cover it with your own fabric, embroidery… whatever you fancy!

WHAT I WORE: Super Crop Top (ASOS) // Jeans (ASOS) // DIY Snap On Bracelets

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: Snap On Bracelets (Baker Ross) // Felt Floral Stickers (Baker Ross) // Glitter Pom Poms (Baker Ross) // Hot Glue Gun (Amazon) // Hi Tack Glue (Hobby Craft)

So instead of my YouTube video, I guess I’ll give you a step by step on here! I say step by step, but it’s fairly simple. All you need to do is glue down whatever you’re using to decorate your bracelets, making sure that you’re gluing it to the visible side (otherwise it won’t slap down properly). I used my trusty hot glue gun to secure everything into place afterwards.

For things like pom poms, slap your bracelet on your wrist and make a small mark at the point before your bracelet starts to wrap onto itself. You mustn’t glue anything past this mark otherwise it won’t lay flat. Does that make sense?!

I am honestly so sorry that there was no video with this! I feel so bad about it. I hope you got the jist of it anyway! I will promise to do more DIYs soon, it’s actually surprisingly difficult to document what you do as you go along, so I’ll try my best! I hope you have a lovely rest of your evening and don’t forget to let me know if you give this a try!

Bohemian Bedroom Decor Ideas & Wishlist

By March 17, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

So I wasn’t quite sure what to write about for today but seeing as I have been using Pinterest a lot more recently, I thought I would do a bit of a lifestyle post for you! I’m really eager to re-do my bedroom and make it more about me. I feel like my past few layouts and decor bits and bobs have all been to do with the furniture in the room so this time I just want to make it for me and my personal relaxation. So as you can tell by the title, have been loving boho things recently. So here are some bohemian bedroom decor ideas (and a lil’ wishlist)…

Bohemian Bedroom Ideas - Urban Outfitters, H&M, Society6~ THE INSPO: IMAGES VIA PINTEREST ~

Okay so I know these images don’t all look bohemian, but they’re a bit of a mix between both boho and minimalism. I really want to have statement pieces in my room, like bedding and feature posters on one wall. I think these pictures pretty much sum that up. Colour but in a very simple way, plus very rustic, paisley printed pieces thrown in. I’ve found my favourite place to stalk is Urban Outfitters, which is a place I would never normally shop, but some of their decor pieces are awesome. For a bit of fellow-blogger browsing, UO recently interviewed Sara from WAISTE which included pictures from her flat (which is basically the bomb.com), and I’m in awe!

Bohemian Bedroom Ideas - Urban Outfitters, H&M, Society6~ THE WANTS ~

I had a little look online and collected a few things which I’ve being eyeing up for a while and have displayed them for your viewing pleasure. I really really really like the idea of having a brightly coloured tapestry/rug behind my bed. I think it adds a cosy feeling but also adds that cool, bold design element too.

Like I mentioned above, I’d also like to have another wall which features several posters, especially the black and white typography kind. They match most colour schemes and you can pick out ones which are specifically tailored to your mood and style. I think then adding things like wall hangings and frames makes the wall even more interesting, and one day I’d love this bison skull hook in my room… SO COOL!

I also found this super cute cactus jewellery holder on H&M’s website and it’s so cute! I really need to de-clutter my jewellery stash so it would be a good start to possibly cut it down to maybe 1 or two of these holders… it’s probably for the best, I hardly ever wear any of it! I have a tiger on my bed… I have a fake tiger on my bed, which means I sort of need the odd pillow to counteract it’s weirdness and size, so I found this cover (also from H&M) which adds for a bit of texture.

FEATURED ITEMS: Overdyed Rug (Urban Outfitters) // Screw Perfection Poster (Society6) // Frida Khalo Poster (Urban Outfitters) // Do It For Fashion Poster (Society6) // Bison Skull Hook (Urban Outfitters) // Frilly Pillow (H&M) // Cactus Jewellery Dish (H&M)

What are you decor wants right now? Are you thinking of re-vamping your room? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

DIY Ripped & Dipped Jeans | Dylon Dyes*

By March 13, 2015 DIY & Lifestyle

I think you are all excited for this post. A while back you guys were like ‘Please do some DIYs’ in my reader survey and I listened (like I actually kinda’ felt bad for not posting any), so here we are! DIY numero uno of many more to come! The peeps over at Dylon Dyes challenged me to get ma’ dye on, so I had a think and came up with a pretty darn simple but pretty darn awesome looking, do-it-yourself. I’m talking DIY ripped jeans and dip dye…

DIY Ripped Jeans - Dip Dye Tutorial - Dylon Dyes

DIY Ripped Jeans - Dip Dye Tutorial - Dylon Dyes~ THE LOWDOWN ~

First up, what do I mean by ripped and dipped? Well my friend, I’ve combined 2 pretty cool trends and made them into my own thing; ripped jeans with a dip dye effect. As soon as I saw these jeans (£3.50 in the ASOS sale), I knew that I could do something to spruce them up and that involved, well, essentially destroying them. I didn’t really know whether the ripped knee trend was my kind of thing but now that I’ve done it, I’m obsessed! It just adds that edgy touch to a simple outfit, don’t you think?

The dye idea of course came in when Dylon got in touch and the navy colour really poked at me. It’s not a super bold colour but because I incorporate a lot of blue into my wardrobe, it just seemed to work really well. So you wanna’ make your own pair, huh?

WHAT YOU’LL NEED: White Jeans (ASOS) // Pencil // Scissors // Serrated Knife // Tweezers

To Rip…

To rip your jeans, I would highly advise watching The Line Up’s DIY video because it is fab and super clear! But just so you can see it in writing, you will need to do the following… put on your jeans and with a pencil, draw a light line across your knees (this is where you will cut). Take off your jeans and lay them out on a flat surface. Get your scissors and make an incision across the lines you drew (be careful not to cut through to the back!). Be careful not to make them the cuts too big as they will naturally stretch out.

Next, grab your serrated knife and start to brush over the rough edges that you have made. The edges will start to fray, which is a good start! Then start pulling at small threads with the tweezers, and create the ripped effect you want. Carry on until complete on both cuts! Add smaller cuts on the back of your jeans or anywhere else if you want 🙂

DIY Ripped Jeans - Dip Dye Tutorial - Dylon Dyes

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:  1 Sachet of Dye (Dylon)* // Weighing Scales // 250g of Salt // 6L of Water // Bucket/Metal Sink // Large Spoon // Protective Gloves

To Dye…

I’d recommend reading the sachet instructions first but really, all you need to do is fill up a bucket/sink with 6 litres of hot water (40°c) and pour in 250g of ordinary salt. Next up, you should mix the salt into the water so it’s nicely dissolved and then add the sachet of dye. Mix up the dye and salt and get ready with your jeans! Make sure you’re using protective gloves when completing this project!

Get your jeans and slowly dunk one leg into the dye-filled water. Gradually dunk the one leg into the water until it reaches just below your ripped knees. Don’t go too much further unless you want the dye to seep over the rips. Squeeze and bunch the submerged fabric so that the dye really soaks in. Now, you will need to really carefully sink the other leg into the water, careful not to get even more of the other leg covered in dye. Repeat what you did on the first leg, just careful not to spread dye everywhere!

Set the top half of your jeans (the un-dyed part) to the side of your bucket/sink, making sure that it can’t accidentally slip into the water. Leave for 45 minutes and voila!

WHAT I WORE: Holographic Rain Coat (ASOS) // Stripey Top (Johnnie B @ Boden)* // Ripped & Dipped Jeans (DIY) // Holographic Shoes (Boohoo)*

So, what do you think? I’m actually quite impressed with my DIY attempt. Do let me know what you think in the comments and tweet me a picture if you make your own version! Also, let me know anymore do-it-yourself ideas that you’d like to see on my blog… 🙂

Even on your bad days you can always be creative! Have you ever got up in the morning and thought, ‘I am so bored, I cannot think of what to blog, or what to do today?’. As a designer myself, I sometimes find annoying life problems can be discouraging and depressing, and find that trying to brainstorm just isn’t enough – after all, I’m short on inspiration, brainstorming isn’t going to turn up much! So today I thought I would jot down some tips for you…

Watch a movie…

Feeling really down and totally uninspired? Watch a good movie, buy some good old fashioned sweets, get a big warm blanket, snuggle down and enjoy. You will find little inspiring thoughts will spring to mind and will usually stay with you, so you can use them at a later time. It’s often good to re-cleanse your mind and just relax.

Look, look and look again…

Remember to look at your surroundings. Many of us go through our day through blinkered eyes; try to find inspiration in everything you see. I recommend cutting a small hole in a piece of paper, pop it in your pocket and when you are alone, on a journey or walking, take this paper and look through it at the world around you, and guess what? You will see everything in a totally new light!

Become a scribbler…

Always have something to write with, even in the most absurd of places! Take a pen and paper, any scrap will do, and draw and write about everything you see, wherever you go. Write on tickets, wrappers, cans, whatever you can scribble on! Keep all of these little notes in a scrapbook or journal to flick through from time to time.

Be curious…

Creative people are insatiably curious. Like me, curious people ask so many questions! Look at the world around you and always want to ask why? How? Expose yourself to new experiences, new sensations and states of mind and this openness will significantly boost your creative output.

People watch… (in a non-creepy way)…

I am always looking, watching… (but not creepily staring I will just add, before you think I am some sort of weirdo!) Creative types often love to people watch, and it can be a great way to generate some fantastic ideas this way! Look at what people around you are wearing, what they are doing and how they portray yourself. Pin point different characters that interest you.

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.” – Steve Jobs.

This is one of my favourite quotes by Steve Jobs. To keep those creative juices flowing, you have to surround yourself with creativity. That doesn’t mean you have to live in a creative city, or know other artists… it means you have to search for the creativity around you. Keep looking, and you’ll find that spark once again.

Thank you so much for writing Mama Posh! I hope this helped some of you and that your creative juices will come flowing straight back for all your blogging needs. Speak soon!

Christmas 13

~ MERRY CHRISTMAS ~

I just wanted to write a little post to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I’m not going to be blogging very much (in fact, not really at all as I’ve scheduled posts), between now and the New Year because my family are over and I want to enjoy it. I have scheduled and written a few posts to go up on each Sunday between now and then, so you won’t have to miss me too much!

Then when it’s the New Year, I’ll pop up my resolutions and goals for 2015, and we’ll be back baby! I’m so excited to sit by the fire with a hot chocolate and tear open festive wrapping paper with all the people I love. We’re even putting carrots down for Father Christmas for the first time since I found out he wasn’t real… the joys of having a 1 year old nephew! I hope you have a lovely time too, no matter how little or many presents are under the tree. And for those of you who don’t celebrate Christmas, have a wonderful time during the holidays and celebrate ringing in the New Year! I can’t wait to share my stories with you in 2015… flipping heck, I’ll be 15! Half way to 30, and only a few more years until I can drive my own car. Yikes!

So, from me to you,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
